Full job description

Highview Residences, K-W is a very special care home for people with dementia and we are currently looking to hire a very special Part Time Cook! This is not your regular cooking job. Our home is set up like any home - only bigger. You’ll be preparing beautiful, home cooked meals for our residents, in a homelike kitchen.

The ideal candidate will be a positive, team oriented, flexible person who puts the needs of the residents first. May include therapeutic and specialized dietary and needs. Responsible for ensuring proper food handling, meals served on time and that work areas are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition, involving residents when/where possible. Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator of Highview or their delegate, the Cook will work with co-operation and kindness with Residents, their families, and other members of the care team.

Responsibilities:

Follows proper food handling and storage techniques.
Knowledgeable preparation all menu items for meals ensuring quality in regards to taste, presentation, specialty diets, and texture modification for resident safety.
Meets the time schedule for meals and snack times.
Monitors the quality of food supplies being delivered, and helps monitor stock levels.
Keeps work area clean, sanitary and uncluttered.
Follows all Policies and Procedures as well as, written job routines and duties as established by Highview.
Treats Residents, visitors and staff with respect at all times.
Ability to adapt to frequently changing and challenging situations with resilience with good time management, ability to prioritize, and multi-task

Qualifications:

Food Handler’s Certificate.
Preferred cooking experience working with Dementia Residents or in retirement or long term care.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Reliable and able to work with Residents and others in a team atmosphere.
Must be able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand/walk for the majority of the shift.
Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check (dated within 6 months).
Must provide a two-step TB skin test (per Health Unit Guidelines).
Current CPR and First Aide Certifications.

Part-time hours: 15 per week

Work remotely
