Job Posting – Full Time Factory Store Manager - Vaughan

Lots of products we bring in are hard to find and manage, but instead of shying away, we go 'diggin in the corners'. Just like in hockey, we think there’s a place for grinders in the equipment industry.

By prioritizing the needs and desires of hockey families, this father and sons team which began by fixing broken sticks in the basement, has grown to include many other likeminded hockey people and garnered tremendous support from the hockey community. We remain rooted in our humble beginnings, and relentless in our commitment to making hockey accessible to all, regardless of financial means, though our new Vaughan location sets us up to reach the next level.

WHO YOU ARE

You are an energetic, highly motivated individual who recognizes this as an opportunity to work in the hockey industry

with an exciting, growing business. You grew up playing hockey and are experienced with, and interested in hockey equipment, ideally in a retail setting. You take pride in your work and the potential to make a real difference representing and growing a small business. Your work ethic, positive demeanor, and demand for excellence make you a natural leader. You are a friendly, outgoing person who likes to work with people, while also maintaining a high attention to detail and organizational skills. You are experienced in a retail setting, and have multiple years of experience managing staff. You have the ability to manage your time and prioritize tasks.

THE ROLE

You will be the main presence in the HSM Factory Store. Reporting to the Director of Sales, you will be the lead manager in Vaughan, our newest retail location. In addition to assisting customers in person, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall look and feel of the store and the associated customer experience, including a top class shooting & testing area. You will hire, train, and manage a retail staff of full and part time employees to ensure the Factory Store is always looking its best and customers are receiving an unmatched shopping experience. Your passion for hockey equipment will make you a valuable member of our in-store sales team, and your expertise in products and policies will make you a resource for all staff. You will be a key part of our customization and team sale processes, and support wider wholesale objectives as required.

As a small business, we value versatility, and a successful candidate in this role would look forward to learning about and assisting with all areas of the business as required. This is a new position for a brand new location that has been made necessary by the continued growth of HSM.

Our priority is to hire someone to work our busiest store hours, with a typical weekly schedule being 4 week days and 1 weekend day.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Establish and maintain a top class hockey retail shopping experience with the world’s best selection of Pro Blackout inventory, drive store towards sales objectives; be accountable for retail success of the location
Manage full and part time retail staff, including hiring/firing, training, scheduling shifts, assigning tasks, and aligning team with overall sales/marketing focuses
Demand thorough execution of daily opening/closing checklists, control overall look and feel of Factory Store shopping experience
Take advantage of new Factory Store and experiential area to grow HSM brand; contribute to refining and improvement of the location
Lead team sales and customization processes within the Factory Store to drive revenue and create an outstanding customer experience; support their overall success
Be expert in HSM products, promotions, and policies. Write and update SOPs, Training Documents, and policies as required. Be available to assist on floor and with customer service as needed
Work with Warehouse Manager to maintain the Factory Store property
Stay up to date with industry trends, be in the loop on what is going on in all areas of HSM, and communicate across departments (eCommerce, Events, Operations, Marketing, Wholesale etc)

WHAT YOU BRING

Post Secondary Education or equivalent experience. Many of our staff have degrees/diplomas in areas like Sport Management
Passion for the game of hockey and interest in gear; retail hockey background and/or strong connections in the hockey community are major assets
3+ years in a management role with responsibility overseeing a team in a retail environment; ideally hockey
Ability to manage time effectively, analyze data, and make decisions. Attention to detail is essential
familiarity with Shopify, Netsuite, or other eCommerce software is a plus
An open mind and a positive attitude; a willingness to take on a wide variety of tasks (including hands on work).
Leadership qualities and experience working with a team
A valid driver’s license. A valid passport and the ability to drive a rental truck (ie age 25+) is an asset as well.
Availability to work during our busiest hours (weekday evenings, weekends, especially during hockey season)
