Are you passionate about bringing spaces to life? We're looking for a creative, customer-focused Design Consultant to join our team! In this role, you'll work closely with clients to help turn their vision into reality—providing expert design advice, recommending complementary products, and offering insights into current trends and what works best for their space.
The designer develops plans to meet customer requirements and estimates the cost of materials. They develop plans and specifications for home and compile a list of materials from the blueprints. They take part in sales calls, and regularly estimate the cost and quantity of materials necessary for specific projects. The designer must perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop plans and specifications for consumer customers or contractors.
- Explain the need for and the proper use of materials to the customer.
- Up-sell features and benefits to customers.
- Maintain the reception area in a tidy condition
- Take and pass on messages. Determine when something is urgent and expedite a response.
- Maintain a file of freight damage claims
- Guide and assist customers in their designing needs or requirements
- Create a project management timeline of the schedule and tasks of the project
- Answer telephone calls.
- Prepare lists of materials based upon blueprints kitchen/bath and site measurements
- Order product and coordinate customer accounts
- Try to accommodate the contractors’ prescribed consumer budget.
- Estimate both the material requirements for projects.
- Recommend and work with the Home Installs program as required.
- Supply customers and / or management with accurate estimates on a timely basis.
- Accompany outside salespeople on customer calls upon request.
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, conferences, etc., when appropriate.
- Suggest changes in rules, policies and / or procedures when you believe such changes would improve efficiency, profits, sales, overall operations, and / or morale.
- Work on special projects when they are assigned by your supervisor after determining a mutually agreeable degree of priority in the context of your other responsibilities.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary diploma in Interior Design, or a related design field is an asset
- 1 - 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role
- Training in drafting, designing and blueprint reading an asset.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to visual detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate with a team
- Must be able to read, and interpret information relative to the position.
- Must be able to operate equipment necessary to the position, e.g. a computer, drafting software, fax machine, telephone, etc.
- Excellent mathematical skills.
