Position Summary
Hollyburn is seeking a service-driven and hands-on Assistant Café Manager to support the daily operations of Hollyburn Country Club’s Café. In this role, you will assist with leading the front-of-house café team, maintaining high service standards, supporting barista and guest service during peak periods, and ensuring Members and guests receive a warm, polished, and consistent experience.
The Assistant Café Manager plays an important role in team training, scheduling, operational execution, inventory support, cleanliness, safety, and communication between the Café, kitchen, Member Services, and other Club departments. This role requires someone who is comfortable being present on the floor, coaching team members in real time, and stepping into service when needed.
The ideal candidate is a proactive hospitality professional with café or fast-casual leadership experience. You bring strong service instincts, excellent organization, barista or specialty coffee knowledge, and a calm, team-focused approach. You take pride in creating a welcoming environment, supporting staff development, and ensuring every Member interaction reflects Hollyburn’s values of community, respect, hospitality, evolve, and magic.
Position Responsibilities
Member Engagement – 25%
- Ensure Members and guests receive warm, attentive, and professional service that reflects the casual, yet elevated Cafe environment.
- Promote Hollyburn’s values of community, respect, evolve, hospitality, and magic in all interactions.
- Encourage team members to create personalized moments and exceed Member expectations consistently.
- Respond to Member feedback promptly, using it to guide enhancements in service delivery.
- Be present on the floor to supervise, support, and engage with Members and staff during peak times.
- Actively assist with barista duties and guest service during busy periods or when needed.
Leadership & Staffing – 25%
- Support the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of Cafe team members.
- Ensure all new hires are welcomed into the Club environment through a structured first day and orientation experience.
- Foster a team environment that emphasizes collaboration, professional development, and open communication.
- Provide consistent coaching and mentorship to team members and support formal performance reviews.
- Celebrate team successes and recognize staff contributions regularly through Hollyburn’s recognition programs.
Facility & Safety – 10%
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and visual presentation across all areas of the Cafe.
- Ensure team adherence to all health, safety, and Food Safe practices.
- Collaborate with Plant Engineering and other departments to maintain a safe and fully operational facility.
- Train Cafe team members in emergency procedures and Club safety protocols.
Budget & Cost Control – 10%
- Assist with labour and supply cost monitoring to meet Cafe financial targets.
- Support the inventory management process including ordering, stock rotation, and waste reduction.
- Work with the Food & Beverage leadership team to align Cafe offerings and budgets.
Operational Execution – 10%
- Support the daily operations of the Cafe including cash handling, staff deployment, product quality control, and visual merchandising.
- Collaborate with the culinary team to develop and refine the menu and beverage offerings based on Member feedback and seasonal trends.
- Oversee daily opening and closing procedures and maintain compliance with all Club policies and provincial licensing requirements.
- Maintain and manage barista equipment, ensuring readiness and cleanliness at all times.
Interdepartmental Liaison – 10%
- Act as a communication bridge between the Cafe, Kitchen, Member Services, and other Club departments.
- Participate in daily pre-shift meetings and communicate relevant updates to team members (e.g., specials, 86’d items, event schedules).
- Support Member Services with café-related updates that impact operations or the Member experience.
Scheduling & Administration – 10%
- Prepare and manage weekly Cafe staff schedules using Dayforce, ensuring appropriate coverage during high-demand periods.
- Track staff availability, vacation requests, and hours worked.
- Assist with payroll processing and reporting through Dayforce.
- Support the Cafe Manager with administrative tasks and reports as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years in a café, bistro, or fast casual environment in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Barista experience and familiarity with specialty coffee preparation is an asset.
- Private club or member-based environment experience is considered an asset.
- Valid Serving It Right (required).
- Food Safe Level 1 certifications (preferred).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for hospitality and teamwork.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Reliable transportation is an asset due to limited public transit options near the Club.

Working Conditions:
- This position operates 100% on-site
- Regular evenings or weekend work may be required during peak periods or special events
- Own transportation is an asset as public transportation is not frequent to/from the Club
