Accounts Payable Clerk

The First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of British Columbia (FNESS) is a not-for-profit organization, as well as a registered charity, under the governance of a First Nation Board of Directors. FNESS assists BC First Nations in developing and sustaining safer, healthier, and thriving communities. Our programs focus on Awareness, Preparedness, Mitigation, and Recovery. The goals of a self-sustaining and resilient community must keep safety as a priority as we support the development of community and professional capacity.

Position Summary

Join our North Vancouver-based accounting team as an Accounts Payable Clerk. This is a great opportunity for someone who is a stickler for details and organized. You will report directly to the Senior accountant and will work with all members across the organization.

Core Responsibilities

Check and distribute mail
Check invoices sent by e-mail
Process high volume full cycle accounts payable
Code invoices
Digitally/manually distribute invoices for approval
Enter invoices into accounting software once approved
Prepare Credit Applications as needed
Code credit cards, ensure receipts are attached for all expenditures and obtain approvals for payment.
Assist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end procedures as required
Monthly Visa statements reconciliation and recording to the accounting software
Assist FNESS employees with travel claim processing, ensuring expenses are valid and approved
Perform other related duties as assigned
Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the internal business affairs of FNESS.

Requirements

Diploma or certificate in accounting or relevant experience.
1+ years of accounting experience, preferably in Accounts Payable.
A strong work ethic, attention to details and excellent organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
A team player who works well in a collaborative environment
Proficient in using accounting software, including Sage 50, ADP and MS Office products, particularly Excel
A willingness to ask questions and find solutions
Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations is preferred
Criminal Record check including Vulnerable Sector check

Position Type: On-Call Casual Employment Agreement
Location: North Vancouver
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (25 to 37.5 hours per week)
Compensation: $27.00 per hour plus %6 vacation pay
