Full job description

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Child and Youth Program Manager within the Child and Family Services (CFS) department, the Child and Family Outreach Navigator provides comprehensive support to children, youth, and families by facilitating access to services and resources, identifying strengths, navigating challenges, and building the skills, confidence, and connections needed to achieve their goals and enhance their overall well-being.

This is a 1-year contract to work directly with individuals and families, primarily through outreach. The expected hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 pm to 4:30 pm, but this position will require flexibility for special circumstances and program requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Build trusting, supporting relationships with individuals and families in the community as both an advisor and positive role model
Act as an advocate for community members within Songhees nation using a trauma-informed and positive role model approach
Collaborate with community organizations to coordinate resources and services across other family support workers, social workers, counselors, and CFS team members
Have good working understanding of a variety of challenges within the community, including but not limited to mental health, abuse, and substance misuse
Implement educational, recreational, and skill-building programming for individuals and families that promote growth and wellness
Maintain confidentiality and follow data protection standards
Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in alignment with the Child Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA)
Demonstrate familiarity of local and regional service providers (e.g., MCFD, NIȽ TU,O, health, education, legal and housing supports)

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Completed one of the following or is currently enrolled in a program for: Indigenous Family Support, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or related field
Minimum of 2 years’ related experience working within Indigenous communities
Knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) and reporting requirements
Demonstrates ability to maintain an effective work relationship with families, colleagues, service providers, and regulatory program advisors
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Proven ability to work collaboratively with other team members
Knowledge and understanding of Songhees Nation culture, heritage, and spirituality as well as the unique circumstances faced by Songhees members and the community
Current First Aid/CPR certificate
Must be able to provide a clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment
Valid class 5 BC driver’s license required

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
