Full job description

Community Support Worker-2026-101

Program: Supported Independent Living-SIL

Status: Part Time

Pay Rate: $ 23.60 an hour

Location: Walkerton

Hours of Work: Days, Evenings, and Every Other Weekend.

The successful applicant will be dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve personal success and encouraging as much independence and skill development as possible for the persons supported. The delivery of supports is individualized and may include, but is not limited to, household management skills, relationship building, personal health and wellness, and networking with families, individuals, and community resources to enhance the quality of life of the individual.

This role is community-based and involves providing support to individuals in their own home and throughout the community, traveling within Walkerton and surrounding areas as required. Supports may include assisting with daily living tasks such as grocery shopping, meal planning, budgeting, banking, attending medical appointments, accessing community programs, and developing skills that promote independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Self-directed: confident in exercising judgement and making decisions.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Advocating for others.
Ability to make decisions and exercise judgement within generally prescribed procedures, instructions and standards.
The ability to be flexible in adapting to and working effectively within a variety of situations, and with various individuals or groups. Being adaptable in understanding and appreciating different and opposing perspectives on an issue or situation, adapting one’s approach as the requirements of a situation change.
Counselling skills, behavioral interventions, conflict resolution, money management and interpersonal skill development.
Familiarity with computers.
Demonstrated willingness to collaborate effectively with others is critical to creating alignment within and across groups, and to providing high levels of services to those who are supported.
Maintain stamina and performance and to act effectively under pressure.
Demonstrate a positive work performance.
Must have a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
Must be able to adhere to IPAC (Infection Protection and Control) practices and wear Personal Protective Equipment when and where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of a Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW) program, or a minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while also being an effective team player.
Comfortable using web-based technology and electronic documentation systems.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience supporting people with complex needs is considered a strong asset.

Additional Requirements

Valid G Class Driver’s License.
Access to a reliable personal vehicle.
Proof of valid vehicle insurance.
Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
Commitment to ongoing training and professional development.
