ABOUT THE JOB…

We are hiring for our "front desk" … which is reception at it's core ... but oh so much more. (who doesn't love a good rhyme?) This is not an "answer the phones and do the filing" kind of position. You will be busy here. You will answer the phones, surely, but every call will take you in a different direction. You will learn so much, and you will quickly become an integral part of our office structure. You will work on multiple computer programs concurrently. The core role of FRONT DESK is to act as a central hub of the agency. You are a first point greeter to clients contacting the office through phones, in office, email, etc.

This person handles incoming "traffic", takes payments, and reroutes clients/prospective clients accordingly within the office. This person will learn about insurance coverages & prices and work through policy changes and updates with existing clients. This person makes documented follow-ups to connect with existing clients on missed payments in an effort to conserve their business and keep their policies active, thereby supporting the goal of the agency to grow.

Depending on what the office is focusing on, this person will be expected to mirror the direction of the team and work collaboratively to help achieve agency goals. Booking appointments and focusing on getting people into the office is be a part of this role. Outbound calls to existing clients in an effort to support the roles of the other agents in the office. Preparation of marketing materials, stationary, office programs will be a core task of this role.

This person is IMPERATIVE to helping our clients have amazing customer service experiences, unlike any other insurance office they've ever dealt with. We like to do things differently here.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

It would be pretty great if you already have some office experience, we will consider that an asset. Or recent office admin education would work too!

You HAVE to be extremely computer proficient. We use multiple software programs at the same time, three monitors at each workstation, and computerized telephones/Microsoft Teams. Your comfort with computer software and office phones is necessary for you to have a good experience here.

Having insurance experience may or may not help....sometimes with experience you have to unlearn old ways to learn our way. We are happy to teach you from scratch!

This employee has strong math skills and will be a billing expert in the office.

We are looking for energy. This person will be outgoing and engaging. Insurance is already boring, so we try to bring it to life around here. We love people, so you should love people too.

You will be answering the phone and calling out all day long so if you’re not comfortable on the phone, this is not the right job for you.

The ideal candidate(s) will have strong multi-tasking and extreme organizational skills.

Ability to speak English fluently and comfortably through email and phones is essential. Excellent grammar and spelling are required.

THE FINE PRINT: BUT SERIOUSLY, if you’re interested YOU MUST READ THIS!

This position will require an insurance license (which we will help you get). You have limited value in this office without an insurance license. It will be a requirement that a general insurance license be obtained PRIOR to start date. The office will assist in coordinating training materials and facilitating exam. Once general insurance (Other than Life) license is active, this role will incorporate all of the above functions and will expand to include processing simple transactions, confirm coverages, claims concierge (connecting clients with claims), giving price updates and high level clarification on coverages.

Candidates who already have an active Other Than Life or RIBO (convertible to OTL) may be preferred but this is not mandatory.

Our office will pay all of your education related costs for study and licensing requirements.

Please note that this is not intended to be an all inclusive list of job duties, but has been created to provide clarity to applicant about the job.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to be eligible for this position, for a Desjardins Agency Team Member Agreement, and potentially to obtain an Ontario insurance license(s), successful candidate must clear a series of background checks including credit report (you must have a credit score above 500 -- THIS IS A DEAL BREAKER FOR LICENSING), motor vehicle record, and criminal background.

Please note that a bankruptcy, consumer proposal, low credit score, serious driving charge, etc, will make you ineligible for a sponsorship agreement with Desjardins…there is unfortunately no wiggle room in this, even if you’re really nice. High School diploma is required.
