Full job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for the overall performance and sustainment of all production elements including Health and Safety, Quality, Delivery, Continuous Improvement, Employee Development and Employee Retention within specified departments.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead, schedule, and coordinate all production activities to achieve output, overall equipment effectiveness, and on-time delivery targets.

· Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; champion a strong safety culture.

· Maintain product quality standards; partner with QA/QC to resolve nonconformances, reduce defects, and improve first-pass yield.

· Manage capacity planning, labor planning, and resource allocation across shifts and work centers.

· Own production KPIs (throughput, scrap, downtime, cycle time, inventory accuracy) and report performance with corrective actions.

· Implement and sustain Lean/CI initiatives (5S, Kaizen, SMED, value stream mapping, visual management).

· Optimize production schedules and material flow in collaboration with Planning, Supply Chain, and Engineering.

· Coach, mentor, and develop teams; support training, certification, and skills matrices.

· Drive root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone) and corrective/preventive actions to address losses and risks.

· Oversee equipment uptime and maintenance coordination; support TPM and reliability initiatives.

· Manage labour, overtime, consumables, and capital expenditures; identify cost savings.

· Support new product introduction (NPI), engineering changes, and process validations.

· Ensure accurate ERP transactions, BOM/routing adherence, and inventory controls.

· Maintain documentation (SOPs, work instructions, control plans) and audit readiness (ISO, internal & customer).

· Ability to structure and organize areas of responsibility and sustain cleanliness. 5S.

Qualifications

· Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, or related field; equivalent experience considered.

· Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.

· Strong employee relations, interpersonal and communication skills.

· Proven experience with Lean/6 Sigma tools and CI project delivery.

· Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP, capacity planning, and production scheduling.

· Demonstrated success managing KPIs, budgets, and cross-functional initiatives.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

· Working knowledge of EHS standards and relevant industry regulations (e.g., ISO 9001).

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

· Well organized and highly motivated.

· Familiarization with metal fabrication and welding would be beneficial but is not required.

Skills and Competencies

· Data-driven decision making; comfort with dashboards and basic statistical tools.

· Process design and standardization; SOP development and training.

· Change management and stakeholder alignment across Operations, Quality, Engineering, Estimating, Customer Service and Supply Chain.

· Problem solving and RCCA; prioritization under time constraints.

· Continuous improvement mindset; ability to coach teams at all levels.

· On-time delivery (OTD) and schedule adherence.

· First-pass yield, PPM, scrap rate, and reworks.

· Safety incident rate and near-miss reporting.

· Labour & machine utilization.

· Labour & machine Efficiency.

· Cycle time.

· 5S & Continuous Improvement.

Working Conditions

· Typical fabrication environment; foot & eye protection required.

· On-site manufacturing environment with regular floor presence.

· Ability to manage and support 3 shifts.

· Physical requirements: standing, walking the floor, occasional lifting within safety limits.
