Full job description

Position Overview

The Millwright Lead will provide hands on field work, on site and support the Millwright Division Manager with the planning, coordination, and execution of Millwright projects and field activities. This position provides a connection between project management and field operations, helping ensure labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, schedules, and site requirements are properly coordinated.

The Millwright Lead will assist with project management responsibilities while also providing field leadership and technical support to crews. The role requires strong knowledge of millwright work, construction practices, scheduling, coordination, and problem solving.

The Millwright Lead reports directly to the Millwright Division Manager.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Millwright Division Manager with planning and managing Millwright projects.
Coordinate day-to-day field activities, crews, equipment, and project requirements.
Support project scheduling, manpower planning, and resource allocation.
Review project drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and schedules.
Perform hands-on millwright work alongside field crews as required.
Assist with project start-up, mobilization, execution, and closeout.
Coordinate material, tools, equipment, and site requirements with project teams.
Provide direction and technical support to Millwright Foremen and field personnel.
Monitor field progress and identify potential schedule, cost, or productivity concerns.
Communicate project priorities and expectations to field teams.
Assist with coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, and other trades.
Participate in site meetings, project meetings, and coordination meetings as required.
Assist with tracking project costs, labour hours, productivity, and project progress.
Identify changes in scope and support the preparation of change work, extra work, and field documentation.
Assist with material take-offs, procurement requirements, and equipment planning.
Coordinate shutdowns, equipment installations, removals, relocations, and commissioning activities.
Help resolve field issues and coordinate solutions with the project team.
Support quality control activities and ensure installations meet project requirements.
Promote compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and project-specific requirements.
Assist with project turnover, deficiencies, commissioning, and closeout documentation.
Maintain professional communication with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
Provide leadership and mentorship to field personnel and support the development of the Millwright team.
Perform other project management and field coordination duties as assigned by the Millwright Division Manager.

Qualifications :

Journeyperson Millwright certification or equivalent industry experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of millwright installation, maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
Previous experience in a Foreman, Lead Hand, Superintendent, or similar field leadership position is an asset.
Experience coordinating construction projects and field crews.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
Strong understanding of construction sequencing and site coordination.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing project requirements.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to identify problems and develop practical field solutions.
Basic understanding of project costs, labour tracking, change management, and productivity.
Comfortable using computers, email, Microsoft Office, and construction/project management software.
Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with the Millwright Division Manager and project teams.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
Ability to work additional hours, weekends, or shutdown schedules when required.
