You have a set schedule and they offer up shifts as they turn up - first-come, first-serve style. They said to use an app to find your shifts and the open/available shifts... but the app didn't actually work and no help was received. 

Then, I received my first shift and I was excited. I got the notification on the app (only part of the app that worked was your own shift calendar) and saw the details 

- only including the address and the shift time -

that was it. No 'report to', no dress-code, no job responsibilities in this group home, what-to-expect or good luck on your first day anything. I received no notice from the managerial staff before my shift. 

* note at this time I still did not have CPI training and was working in a group home for autistic adults *

I showed up for my 9 am shift at 8:20 am (I'm an anxious person who always arrives early) and I waited... and waited... and waited... until 9:30 when someone else arrived, right as I was about to call my supervisor. I was then welcomed in simply with a "Are you from Calvary?" introduction and was then told that today's shift would just entirely be cleaning. 

Whatever, it was over-all a fine day, I definitely didn't feel good about my prospective next shift but I knew that it could have simply been a bad day. I wasn't scheduled for anything else for the rest of the week. (This was a Thursday) 

The next week I finally completed my CPI training. 

The following day (Friday) my supervisor called me about a shift. I was interested in the position and asked when the shift was... to which I was told I would have to leave right this second. I was working my second job at the time since I didn't have any scheduled shifts - I said I would talk to my boss (she was lax and I had completed my work) about it. The manager then got really sassy and basically hung-up on me. I didn't hear back from her for a week.

I wasn't scheduled any shifts the following week (heads up* schedules go on for the following week on SUNDAY, meaning you will find out if you work Monday with less than 1-day advance)  and then suddenly the next Friday mid-afternoon (seems to be a common shift people give away) she calls me again - while I'm at my other job - and asked me to take a client to a high-school party because I was "hip" and "young". I responded that I couldn't due to an event I had already RSVP'd to - my supervisor hung up before I finished my sentence.

I never heard from the company again. 

I never received my certification in CPI even though I completed the training successfully.

I never received anything regarding my employment being terminated (regardless of the fact that it was within their legal right during the trial period, I never received notice of termination).

This is a terribly run company and I wouldn't wish this upon anyone.
Even during my CPI training a girl said that she was hired months ago, worked several shifts (again, without the REQUIRED certification the company promises to give you) and then didn't work a shift in months before the CPI training. I'll never know if she got more shifts, but I'd be willing to bet they pulled the same stunt on her as they did on me.

Shameful.

The pay is truly terrible. At 18$ an hour, you are well below the poverty line. High turnover rate. The management should be improved as well. Hours are inconsistent and there is no guarantee of shifts. They were desperate to find people but unable to keep them more than a few months. 

It's a good place to work, you get lots of hours.Working as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) can be rewarding as you provide essential care and assistance to individuals in need. It involves tasks like helping with daily activities, offering emotional support, and contributing to the overall well-being of those you care for. While fulfilling, it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. 

Management should try his hand at something else. Walked off the job on this guy years ago. Learned a lot since then. There are good companies and bad companies in this field. Calvary is unfortunately one of the bad ones. No support, lack of leadership, etc etc.


I had the opportunity to work with different clients which gave me lots of exposure in my career.  I have learn a lot working in team settings with my colleagues and am really grateful for that

As a new graduate, Calvary gave me the chance to use my education and apply it in the field. 

I like the flexibility, I can submit what hours I am available and I am not pressured to take shifts. 


Great company to work for, flexible hours and very reliable. Staffing is amazing people are friendly. You can work with this company without feeling boredom .

- Gained a lot of experience due to travelling to different locations and home settings.
- Group home settings, family home settings, shelter settings

Working long hours only to take home a peanut salary. Too many demands from management like they pay you a lot. Don't waste your time here.  You can get better pay from other agencies for the same job.

Bad environment. Bad pay. Not welcoming or encouraging. They don’t back up their staff, they leave you over worked and tired. Could honestly care less about your well being.
