What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked at ABM as an Admission Advisor for four years, and it was truly a meaningful experience for me. I learned so much during my time there — not just about admissions and student services, but also about communication, teamwork, and personal growth.

What I enjoyed most was supporting students and being part of their educational journey. It felt rewarding to guide them, answer their questions, and help them take the next step toward their goals. Every day brought new challenges that helped me grow professionally and build confidence in my skills.

Overall, I’m grateful for my time at ABM. The experience helped shape my career, and I’ll always appreciate the knowledge and relationships I gained there.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The role could definitely be stressful at times, especially during busy enrollment periods and when working toward targets. It required strong time management, patience, and the ability to stay organized under pressure. However, those challenges helped me grow professionally and become more confident in handling fast-paced situations.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall, the culture balances teamwork, learning, and accountability — and for me, it was a place where I felt valued and challenged in a good way.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Throughout the day, I would conduct phone calls or meetings with students, explain program details,  and help them complete their applications. There was also a lot of coordination with other departments to ensure students had the information and support they needed.

I have never worked at a company that was more supportive than ABM College. All you have to do is show up and try your best and they will go out of their way to accommodate you and support you. The president has an open door policy and welcomes any staff or student to come if they have any problems. There is a fully developed Human Resources Team, there are Team Leads and Direct Supervisors to reach out to. Ignore the bad reviews - these people did not seek guidance or help to resolve any issues they had, and if they would have, it would have been addressed. ABM truly cares. There are so people that are here to SUPPORT each staff and student in this building. I have seen an employee that has been here for 9 months and has been promoted 3 times already. Just show up, work hard, and you WILL be successful here. There is major room for advancement and potential for anyone. I also know of a different employee that has been moved to a different department because he wasn't successful and instead of letting him go, they are giving him another chance in a different area as they saw his potential and drive. That's truly all you need to make it here. Wonderful place to work. You are supplied with everything that you need. The people truly care. Everyone is friendly and will greet you when you walk in the doors in the morning whether you know them or not. I can see myself lasting a very, very long time in this company. 

I worked at ABM College and appreciate the opportunity to gain some experience, but overall, it was not a positive work environment.

There’s very little job security—hiring and firing decisions seem abrupt and often lack transparency. Management culture treats staff more like replaceable resources than valued team members. During the interview process, I was asked questions that were inappropriate and potentially discriminatory. Although I was in a difficult position and needed the job at the time, this raised serious concerns.

The workplace lacks diversity in both leadership and general staffing, and organizational structure is almost non-existent. Decision-making is centralized, and micromanagement is common, including excessive monitoring via cameras. Feedback from staff is not genuinely welcomed unless it aligns with the CEO’s preferences.

Work hours are fixed, with little flexibility, and the lunch break is unpaid. While the college asks both staff and students to leave reviews, in my experience, these requests often felt forced. There were times when students were allegedly required to submit reviews to receive their certificates, which felt unethical.

Although some employees seem to thrive especially those favored by leadership; many feel voiceless and undervalued. I'm grateful I gained some work experience, but I would recommend exploring other opportunities if you’re in a position to do so.

Staff turn over is EXTREMELY high, in my short time (literally 2 months) I witness a handful of new hires for various positions. They are always hiring admissions officers, who are based on commission (they get a bonus for every student they get enrolled t ABM) promising students things that are not actually true to their program, just to get that admission bonus. 

The college prioritizes student satisfaction over staff satisfaction. At the end of the day ABM is a "business" and is treated as such, it is a numbers game, the more students the more grants.  Students are not held accountable for not following College policies that is laid out by the Government. Instead, staff get told that the "customer" is always right. 

I was let go without cause, basically saying due to "funding" they cannot keep my positions, even though the college makes soooo much from their students. I do not feel that the President of the University knows how to manager the managers, who do not have the educational background to run a College. They move people around internally, you could be a loan officer one day and then put into student services the other. Employees were great, loved my team, when "higher" people are allowed to come back to college to work in their previous role, doesn't make much sense, then they turn around and terminate people's positions. 

no matter what they say about this college, it is still a good vehicle to use towards a good career in education. Admissions Advisor is a sales position but in a consultative way. Training is now provided and candidates are being prepared for the job. All tools are provided including scripts, softwares, concepts and most importantly leads are given for free. You can practice from old leads and request new leads when you are ready. Typical day is to check your students report, follow up with your students conduct interviews and my favourite part is to inspire and motivate mature students to take action on a career change. The management is OPEN to good ideas as long a it make sense. Employees are rewarded witht their service, monthly birthday celebrations. theres over 100 people working at the calagry location and to feed everyone every friday is impressive. Free Breakfast every morning, free coffee. Management can be stubborn at times as the college expands and experience GROWTH pains. The hardest part is to start the job as you are required to put in a lot of effort getting a hold of students, but once you do enrollments, the referrals will keep coming.

I very regrettably worked there for only a short time as an admin assistant, and although I loved the work and my team members, and although my performance was consistently praised and encouraged, I had been terminated without cause while I was still within my 3 month probation period (apparently due to corporate restructuring, or I guess downsizing). During the interview, I was told they were hiring because the Toronto branch was expanding operations, and they wanted long-term team members who would grow with the company. I was really enjoying myself there, doing good work and being helpful and productive. My direct supervisors who worked with me on site at the Toronto branch were pleased with my performance and contributions, and had no complaints. And yet, the HR department in Calgary were incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate, as they had terminated me over an email, with no warning, and without notifying my supervisors at all. I felt incredibly disrespected and no longer valued at this company, and I would advise any prospective applicants to reconsider applying here due to the immense instability and disorganization from upper management (Calgary team).

After getting hired, and train for 3 days they expect you to do sales. Happened to me the minim sale is 2 a week I have a week where I count sale anything because the 2 students that I was enrolling they decide not to sign the contract . They fired me a the next week. Not many leads and always they send you do not contact leads or not interested. Also they is a lot of gossip . Very bad culture they make you feel at the beginning like you are in paradise and after been there your realize is not real . THEY DONT CARE!  your need to wait 30days to get commission they need to confirm that the student is attending classes so it doesn’t matter is by some reason you enrolled a student and they don’t attend you don’t get comission.   Before I was fired I have 3 students enrolled they 30 days has pass is going to be almost 2 months and they are not responding emails even tried to call so many times reception put me on hold and hung up on me. This is so disrespectful because I know looking at the students to see if they are actives or not it doesn’t take long but just the fact they ignoring and not responding is so unprofessional. 

A typical day involves managing accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices, assisting with reconciliations, updating student accounts, and supporting internal teams with financial inquiries. The work requires attention to detail, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring accuracy in all financial records.
Management is supportive, approachable, and encourages professional growth. They provide guidance when needed and foster an environment where learning and improvement are valued. Continuing to provide training and balancing workloads during busy periods would further enhance efficiency and employee satisfaction.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing. The work culture was awful- nepotism and a lot of back biting between staff. Lack of integrity and honesty from both management and employees. In the end, it’s the students who suffer as they don’t get their money’s worth from the lack of quality education.

Dealing with an unprofessional supervisor who lacks the educational qualification for the area she is supervising. Takes things personally and
Will get u fired for no food reason. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Bad as management lacks integrity and immediate supervisors aren’t qualified to lead. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Follow up with students ready for their practicum work. Coordinates with students and employers for best practicum fit. Establishing and maintaining relations with employers to ensure continuous Practicum placements of students.

This company is geared to get as many paying students as they can, but once they are there, the commitment to providing a quality education is not! The president is only interested in taking as much money as he can for his own personal use, leaving nothing left to run the programs, but then asking every monthly staff meeting "What do we need to do to be great?" Students are being used to make up the difference, being told that they need to work as part of their "training", when, really, it's so that they don't have to pay an instructor! Staff are expected to go above and beyond, with insults instead of recognition.

The accountant is surly and disrespectful (and you always have to watch your pay cheque to make sure it's accurate), however, the other staff members are typically kind-hearted and fun. Some members of management are great, but others seem to have no idea what they are doing.
