AT&T

I held many positions with MetroNet/AT&T, as each one would eventually get centralized in our Toronoto office.
-NOC: monitor customer network for reliability, usage spikes, change security tapes, created Operational Procedures manual. Programmed routers.
-create and manage the Problem/Change Management system for install activity.
-created and manage the Provisioning Coordination role, documented the procedures and processes, and later trained the team in Toronto that would perform the role in future.
-NOC Manager was empowering and supportive.
-this was a tight team and everyone had their area of expertise, and worked closely on resolving issues.
-CARRIER SERVICES: managed sales orders and quotes, worked closely with engineers on network technical requirements that would support the customer's connection and equipment.
-worked closely with Telco carriers to ensure we had clean orders that supported the delivery schedule contracted to our customers.
-worked with 3rd party vendors/suppliers on specific technical requirements that we needed to support on our network.
-worked closely with Project team for large customer installations.
-CUSTOMER CARE: documented existing processes and re-engineered them to improve the process and customer satisfaction. Worked closely with iternal Training team on the documentation.
-Managed the project to install Customer Care Database across 4 Care Centres. Worked closely with IT Department on technical stability issues for the database.
-Coordinated process discovery sessions with all cross-functional departments that interfaced directly with the Care Centre.
-Care Centre had a strong management team, supportive and deeply in touch with the business and industry.
-the team was diverse, focused and great communictors.
-the hardest part of the job was letting it go, as the Care Center was being closed in Calgary and moved to Toronto.
-I enjoyed working with all the departments that touched or supported our customer base.

At&t is like a tale of two companies.  I was brought there when they acquired DIRECTV (which T management is proceeding to destroy), so I don't know about their interview process, but i do know it's a toxic cesspool and prospective employees should avoid it at all costs.

The good:
* good pay & benefits
* a lot of smart people work there
* a huge amount of opportunities to learn

The bad:
* promotions are based entirely on politics
* senior management are clueless
* the T culture is as toxic as a cult

The ugly:
* constant, constant layoffs. every quarter there is another mass layoff
* senior executives lie to employees about everything
* the ceo destroys everything he touches
* T is actually run by slimy activist investors from the Eliot Group

T is a sinking ship. They will layoff ten thousand employees so they can do another round of stock buyback to keep the price up, but they won't bother to spend a dime to try and improve their products. Their aimless direction sees them ignoring and sacrificing the nearly 20 million DIRECTV and Uverse customers in favor of 750K ATTTV customers, which needs fiber broadband.

The level of disrespect management has for employees is astonishing. They will lie to you every chance they get, but expect you to buy into their cult-like culture. It's perverse.

If you plan on a job there don't expect to stay long, because you will be fired at some point due to senior executive incompetence. Instead go there, get some experience, then leave for something better.

T is a horrible place. It won't even start to get better until Stankey leaves.

A typical day at work consists of interactions with customers regarding billing explanations, requests for new service or changes to service in a fast paced call center. My manager was very easy to work with.The hardest part of the job was to maintain that enthusiastic tone and patience throughout the call even when your customer was upset with a high bill and having to offer all available products on every applicable call. However,  I have learned to not take things personal and try to put myself in the customer's place. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping out a customer in a positive way and them opening up in a personal way. I felt as if I was a counselor at  times. I really enjoyed my customers. The pay is great and so are the benefits. One thing I would change is to make the promotions more simplified and I would implement a employee mentorship program for mentors and mentees  in every office.

A typical day at work involved calling people over the phone to offer them AT&T services. If they refused I had to proceed and assume the sale until they either hung up or requested to be put on the do not call list. I learned how to work around peoples objections however it was not very rewarding work knowing that I was offering them services that they did not want or need. Management was very scattered, the woman training us left half way through our 2 week training session, leaving us with a new trainer who taught us everything completely different from the first trainer. The hardest part of the job was definitely trying to keep customers on the phone after they learned that I was a telemarketer. The most enjoyable part of the job was my co-workers.

Working for 24-7 Intouch, selling cell phones for AT&T was a nice place to work. I enjoyed the people I worked with, and the job was repetative but easy to do. You had to follow a 5 step sales program, which really helped with making sales. I did a good job there, and I made many sales for the company. I had to leave because I moved out of Winnipeg. My typical day at work was get to work, load up the AT&T website, sit and chat with people wanting to buy cell phone contracts. I learned a lot of about cell phones and the benefits of each phone. The management kept to themselves, but the team leaders were great and very helpful. The hardest part of the job was when you chatted with an angry customer, but the supervisors were very helpful in those situations. The best part of my day was working with my co-workers.

Local management was great but central management wasn't as supportive. Loyalty didn't count for much as many over qualified/under paid resources were laid off even they managed to stick around during hard times.

Local management stood by employees and contractors but central management didn't quite feel the same way and performed poor actions in that regard.

Very tight and small room to grow. Pay was very low compared to the market. Expectation wasn't reasonable from the client and central management did a poor job in managing expectation and encouraged the client to have their own version of "Alise in wonderland" in terms of expectations. 

Great company name to have on the resume but they took from us a lot in return to have it on there.

Very stressful work environment. Discrimination against older employees especially if you're female. They lay off frequently and there is no job security. They continue to surplus people and those remaining have so much work they can't possibly complete it. If you have a boss that supports you  it helps but if you don't you may as well forget it. It's who you know not what you know. If you are in Northern California you might as well forget about having a job.  If you work in an office outside 50 miles of a hub office your job is in jeopardy.They are in so much debt they have to lay off people to pay their bills.  There are a lot of unhappy and secure people that don't know from one day to the next if they will have a job.

.  100+ cold calls from an all american clientel with over %50 ratio of irate customers looking to receive rebates on purchased items and plans.
. I learned how to deal with angry customer, cold calling criteria, trained on intricate computer systems and department communication procedures and guidelines.
. Management had a well organized establishment and rigorous training to ensure everything and everyone was fitted to the highest potential
. Co-workers were usually irritated and moody because of the irate customers but generally nice people to be around.
. The hardest part of the job had to be the irate customers and the most enjoyable part was the hours worked.

Every day at AT&T will be fast paced and it is always a joy to work for AT&T as team and people are all across US and different geographies.  AT&T migrated itself from regular SDLC process of project intake (Waterfall) to Agile 4 years back and they matured into a great organization by reaping business and financial benefits of executing projects over Agile methodology and now they are transforming themselves into Scaled Agile way of working with monolithic applications being migrated into microServices right from presentation later to SOR (System of Records) . So working in Devops with CI/CD and Scaled Agile with microServices is always a fast paced learning and fun.

Unlike many people this is something I love doing. I learned networking and its wide areas and earned the professional experience which made me manage my personal and work both lives. My co-workers were very cooperative , understanding and patient. The hardest part of the job was the beginning as it's a complex and large scale company, getting used to it took couple of months, apart from that, everyday is a challenge here which is worth accepting. The best part about working here is the large and complex working environment, with thousands of devices to manage and new technologies being installed in the existing enviroment its become more diverse and I get to know what exactly is out there and up to mark and current.
