Typical day at work has me performing a large variety of jobs and duties.
Along with one co-worker, I manage and am responsible for our district datacenter, server infrastructure, VMware environment, backup systems, main datacenter firewalls, 48 school site local firewalls, firewall security and our network infrastructure consisting of 600+ HP switches. My daily work requires that I analyze and monitor all of our systems and resources and plan the day-to-day work tasks for their maintenance. I document and follow-up on all needed maintenance and upgrade work and schedule this with my co-worker, to ensure that it is completed in a timely and efficient manner. I am very conscientious in documenting procedures and infrastructure systems both for our infrastructure team as well as for others that may require more of an in depth understanding of our systems and their integration.

Working as an Education Assistant is a very rewarding career. To be able to help a child progress to another level of understanding no matter how long it takes is the one of the highlights of my career. Working with a team filled with caring individual is what I look forward to every day on my way to work. The hardest part of my day is when another person is in distress for whatever reason. My goal every day is let others know just how valuable they are as a person and that things will get better. I have always had the utmost respect for management. They have worked hard to get where they are today and I always respect all sound decisions they make .

A varied day where you learn, help, assist and relate with co-workers, teachers, administrators and students.

The hardest part of the day is dealing with behavior issues and waiting for opportunities to help students, and not knowing how to help a student.

The most enjoyable part of the day is when kids are in a good mood and are friendly and desire your help.

Management, teachers and co-workers generally supportive and quite friendly. Lots of appreciation and fun times throughout the year!

Not getting breaks that you are entitled.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
 Very open, welcoming, helpful. Really nice people work here.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, fast paced, exciting, full of challenging and rewarding situations. Great Professional Development opportunities.

You are always busy doing something whether it be for the teacher or a child. 
Sometimes the kids can be very aggressive such as biting, kicking, screaming, throwing things. Sometimes the child is the best thing you’ve ever experienced. Depends on the school, placement and situation. Regardless of the high wage the hours aren’t sufficient enough to make a living. Every ea has another side job to make ends meet.

Availability policies and rules are very subjective and can lead to discipline and or termination. Policy and rules are not always followed. 

3 times refusing work with or without evidence means the door. 

Make sure you are on the call list and they have the right phone number. 

Abbotsford School district is cutting edge in curriculum design, technology and the quality of its teachers and leaders.

For an institutional organization, it is progressive and somewhat flat in organizational design.

Very good. I always enjoyed the majority of people I worked with.

I would work with various students in different classrooms

If you can put aside the looks and whispers from your coworkers then go for it. If i could have run my own special needs room i would have had no issue but the people they hire do not all have the heart for this job and i found it very rude.  Being blamed for something when following the rules of what is taught rather than what your co worker wants and getting hurt for doing the right thing is completely wrong. 

Everyday of work is different and challenging
