If you don't have a sales background, where you already have a database of potential clients or a large personal network of potential clients (family/friends/coworkers), who may need a mortgage-don't bother applying right away.  Have a few people you know that may potentially want/ need a mortgage first (provided you have your license), then apply to the company.

It will be a hit or miss, if you get potential clients, while you are paying for the basic fees of operating your business, as this is strictly commission.  It's an expensive lesson to learn, if you don't have a  potential client database-you have to pay for everything-so be mindful that conversion may take some time, while your funds are depleting.  There are ebbs and flows to the business and the knowledge of the Lenders you use will become apparent if you research the various policies.

With that being said, some of the positives:  They have great course structures for learning their CRM system and other operational courses in order to complete a deal when you are ready-Virtual and Online.  You are able to get accreditation for the upcoming policy changes for AML, through their system.  They give you access to a database system, that shows multiple lenders rates, policies and guidelines-if you don't know- follow the policies, that are clearly provided.  From a marketing perspective you are covered-website, social media.  You are self employed, so you make your hours. Attend various lender and best practices seminars/workshops, which were very informative.  

Some of the hinderances:  Totally commission based, there is no guaranty that your efforts is going to translate into clients, although the experience of doing new things were actually a positive- makes you grow out of your comfort zone.  You learn to just dive in and see what happens - you'll learn what works for you and what doesn't- ROI of your time has to make sense.  From a person who did not come from sales background at all, but did have an extensive mortgage background, I only wished I had an accurate time frame of how long client conversion may be.  What I observed:
If you are absolutely new to the mortgage sales industry and you don't have a client database (you need to build those relationships), realistically client conversion may occur around a year to maybe two.  
If you have a client database (sales/family/friends) but are new to mortgages, I expect client conversion may be 6 months up to a year.  
If you have a client database (sales/family/friends) and are in the mortgage sales industry, but need to shake the cobwebs at a new company, I expect client conversion, maybe up to 4-6 months- tops.  
There are ebbs and flows to the industry as well, once you have clients under your wing, then you will eventually reap the benefits- as this is a referral based business ultimately.  I suggest you keep an alternate job until you have a steady stream that rides the ebbs and flows, especially if you are pursuing this as a full time occupation.

Realistically if you are not bringing in leads, you are wasting your money and time-so have some potential leads in hand before joining the company.  Potential clients can be from anywhere:  family, friends, coworkers, social media, open houses, community events, local businesses, putting up flyers, giving out business cards where you frequent, old fashioned door knocking, etc...the objective is to find which method(s) works for you and your potential business.  You never know until you try everything (within reason), and see what works for you.  The conversions will be sooner than the timeframes I listed above, if you are trying all these things from the start.  Your strengths and weaknesses will be apparent to you as you progress.

Strong focus on Customer service. Liaison with other professionals including but not limited to colleagues, lenders, underwriters, insurers, lawyers, Realtors.
Hardest aspect of the position is to no always being in a position to help every client that you see as some clients are in a very poor financial position that you are simply unable to provide Mortgage for that person. In this situation a referral was made to a debt specialist or bankruptcy expert. Most enjoyable part is meeting new people and helping others.

Worked at head office, it was extremely verbally abusive & unprofessional. Agents don't realize how much money they take from them. Management is rude and miserable. I have never worked in a place where management is always swearing. Management will put you on the spot and embarrass you in front of everyone. There are confidential documents just laying on desks.

Like all mortgage brokerages, they talk a big game to get you in. Pending the team or franchise you join, you 'may' get support.  The BOSS system they brag about is just okay, nothing special and not user friendly.  They charge you for everything, monthly use for their system, charge more for credit bureaus than most brokerages, etc. There is no way to not pay for their system, it is mandatory even if you do not use it or need it.

You get what you put into it it.  Good splits. 
Their internal system is horrible (Boss).  It looks like one guy made it and slowly updates it, a little bit like the rest of their technology.  They should just hire a tech company to do it. 

They do have access to a couple special lenders. 

They are also constantly trying to sell you pens, folders and other various upgrades to their services.

I enjoyed working with Mortgage Alliance, It was extremely knowledgeable experience. Mortgage Alliance is a very team driving company. Everyone is treated as family. The most enjoyable part of this job is getting to be your own boss, and that is also the hardest part.Staying focused is the most important part of your day along with routine.

Great place but requires a good amount of knowledge and experience before success comes. Overall is a good company to work with. Lots of courses available to learn about all products and services they offer. They have also small teams if you prefer working with others instead of individual.

The position working with client to obtain there new home is awesome...the folks that are in financial situation ...there is a lot pride when you get them back on side and their future is now good.
