Galaxy Freightline is seeking an experienced and market-focused Freight Procurement Supervisor to lead our freight procurement function and support the continued growth of our transportation network.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring Galaxy Freightline secures the right freight, at the right cost, while maintaining service commitments and protecting profitability. The successful candidate will lead our Freight Coordinator team, provide market intelligence, monitor transportation costs, and ensure our procurement decisions align with current Canadian freight market conditions.
The ideal candidate understands the complexities of the Canadian transportation market and has experience with freight purchasing, carrier/broker negotiations, pricing analysis, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Freight Procurement & Market Oversight
- Lead and oversee freight procurement activities to ensure operational requirements are consistently supported.
- Monitor Canadian transportation markets, including LTL, FTL, Over-the-Road (OTR), and Intermodal (IM) lanes, to understand pricing trends, capacity availability, and market changes.
- Ensure freight is secured at competitive market rates while supporting company profitability objectives.
- Analyze transportation spend and identify opportunities to improve purchasing decisions and reduce costs.
- Provide guidance and direction to ensure procurement strategies align with business needs.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, coach, and support Freight Coordinators responsible for sourcing and booking broker freight.
- Establish expectations around freight coverage, purchasing decisions, pricing discipline, and execution.
- Monitor team performance and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and development.
- Promote accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement within the Freight Procurement team.
Operations & Capacity Support
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and Planners to understand freight requirements and capacity needs.
- Communicate procurement priorities and ensure Freight Coordinators are focused on supporting operational objectives.
- Identify capacity challenges and assist in developing effective transportation solutions.
- Ensure procurement decisions support customer commitments, equipment availability, and overall network performance.
Transportation Pricing & Market Intelligence
- Complete freight pricing analysis and RFP submissions for Sales opportunities and internal requirements.
- Provide market pricing insights and transportation cost guidance to Sales, Logistics Coordinators, and Operations.
- Prepare weekly market pricing reports to ensure freight is being quoted, purchased, and managed based on current market conditions.
- Analyze carrier and broker spend to identify opportunities to improve purchasing decisions and control transportation costs.
- Support pricing strategies for new opportunities, customer reviews, and contract negotiations.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation, freight brokerage, carrier procurement, or logistics operations.
- Strong understanding of Canadian freight markets, including LTL and FTL transportation.
- Experience with Over-the-Road (OTR) and Intermodal (IM) freight is an asset.
- Proven ability to analyze freight costs and negotiate transportation rates.
- Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring team members.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound business decisions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Logistics teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.

Pay: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
