Full job description

Overview: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Government Relations Advisor provides supportive government relations, policy, regulatory, strategic planning, and coordination support to CEBC. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the role helps coordinate CEBC's government relations priorities, monitor policy and regulatory developments, prepare briefing materials and recommendations, support position and response letters, support member and committee engagement, and help align advocacy work with communications. A core objective of this role is to help CEBC navigate clean energy policy and support advocacy for the continuous and long-term growth of the industry.

Key Function Tasks

Support the Executive Director in developing and coordinating CEBC's Government Relations Plan and related strategic priorities
Liaise with government ministries, agencies, regulators, CEBC members, committees, and partner organizations under the direction of the Executive Director, including arranging meetings and preparing materials
Monitor, read, analyze, and interpret energy-related legislation, regulations, policies, proceedings, and other policy issues
Prepare internal briefings, presentations, summaries, recommendations, and options for the Executive Director
Draft and support the development of position letters, response letters, submissions, and advocacy materials
Support the Executive Director and Communications Lead in developing communication strategies, key messages, public-facing materials, and alignment with CEBC's Communications Plan
Support CEBC committees and member engagement by organizing agenda materials, tracking issues, gathering input, and documenting priorities for consideration
Coordinate follow-up from government, regulatory, member, committee, and partner meetings, including action items, records, and next steps
Work with other organizations, associations, and partners to support alignment and advance issues important to CEBC
Attend various events including CEBC's own conferences and workshops, and support speaker, panel, and stakeholder engagement coordination as required
Maintain organized files, contact information, issue tracking, background materials, and records to support organizational continuity
Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills

Key Administrative Tasks

Communicate factual information and provide timely internal updates
Maintain clear records of the tasks, activities, contacts, decisions, and details of your work
Support meeting logistics, agendas, action items, and follow-up as requested
Contribute ideas, energy and personal commitment to help foster a positive and rewarding work environment at CEBC
Attend meetings as requested; some overnight travel may be required

Key Areas of Accountability

Adhere to all CEBC policies and procedures, including safety
Passionate about working with clean energy industry stakeholders, including First Nations
Have a genuine interest and passion for working in clean energy and its related policy
Support CEBC's relationship-building and network development
Bring a good sense of humour
Must maintain a valid BC driver's license
Legally able to work in Canada

Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality work products on a consistent, reliable basis in a fast-paced work environment with ambitious goals
Excellent interpersonal, written, analytical and verbal communication skills are a must
Demonstrated public speaking, meeting support, and presentation skills are an asset
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Ability to work well with a team, report regularly and meet key deliverables
Knowledge of the organization, functions, process and procedures of the British Columbia Legislature is an asset
Familiarity with current provincial issues in policy areas related to the clean energy industry
Must have an intuitive ability to recognize and appropriately convey the sensitive nature of any situation and the ability to keep matters appropriately confidential
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail are required
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
Excellent computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications
Prepare and present PowerPoint presentations, briefing materials, and meeting summaries
Strategic planning and project coordination skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines while juggling competing priorities
Flexibility to adjust and contribute to continually evolving work situations and changing priorities
Must be able to travel locally and attend multi-day conferences

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in public policy or law preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job duties may be considered.

Experience:

5+ years of government relations, policy, advocacy, public affairs, strategic coordination, or related experience required
