About Last Door Recovery Society: 
LDRS is a registered Canadian charity and nonprofit recovery community operating four residential recovery programs across British Columbia and Alberta: adult and youth programs in New Westminster, BC totaling 75 beds, and two 75-bed programs in Alberta — the Red Deer Recovery Community and the Calgary Recovery Community. We employ over 100 staff, including casual and relief positions, and operate as a non-unionized workplace. Every day, our teams help people rebuild their lives through community, structure, and recovery-focused support.

About Our Programs

LDRS operates four residential recovery programs across three sites: in New Westminster, BC, an adult program and the 10-bed Last Door Youth Program (male youth aged 14 to 18), together totaling 75 beds; and in Alberta, two 75-bed programs — the Red Deer Recovery Community (co-ed, adults 18+) and the Calgary Recovery Community (adult men). All programs use a trauma-informed, social-model approach to recovery, and this role supports HR across the full organization, not a single site or program.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Human Resources Generalist supports the full employee lifecycle — recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policy and compliance, and HR records — for our staff team across all three sites. The primary work location is Red Deer or Calgary, at the successful candidate's choice. This is a hands-on, generalist role well suited to an HR professional with strong command of employment legislation across two provinces who enjoys building people-centred practices in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding

● Manage full-cycle recruitment: job postings, screening, interview coordination, reference and background checks, and offers.

● Deliver a consistent onboarding and orientation experience for new full-time, casual, and relief staff across all sites.

Employee Relations & Support

● Serve as a first point of contact for staff questions on HR policies, benefits, and workplace concerns.

● Support managers with performance management, coaching conversations, and conflict resolution.

● Promote a respectful, trauma-informed, and inclusive workplace culture.

Policy, Compliance & Records

● Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and personnel files in accordance with privacy requirements.

● Support development, implementation, and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.

● Ensure HR practices comply with Alberta and British Columbia employment standards and other applicable legislation across all sites, applying strong working knowledge of both provincial regimes.

● Assist with compliance, accreditation, and audit-readiness activities as they relate to HR.

HR Administration

● Coordinate HR administrative processes including leaves, benefits enrolment, and status changes.

● Track and report on key HR metrics (e.g., turnover, time-to-fill, staffing levels) to support planning.

Qualifications:

Required

● Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

● Three or more years of progressive HR generalist experience.

● Strong, current knowledge of Alberta and British Columbia employment standards and employment legislation, with the ability to apply it confidently across both provinces.

● Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.

● Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HR information systems.

● Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle for travel between sites.

● Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Preferred

● CPHR designation or active candidacy.

● Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, or social-services setting.

● Understanding of trauma-informed, social-model, or recovery-oriented bed-based treatment environments.

● Experience supporting multi-site and/or multi-province operations.

● Clean driving record, with a driver's abstract available on request.

Working Conditions: 

● Full-time position supporting three sites in Red Deer and Calgary, Alberta, and New Westminster, British Columbia. Primary work location is Red Deer or Calgary, at the successful candidate's choice.

● Occasional travel between sites is required; a valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required.

● Non-unionized workplace.

● Standard office environment within a bed-based treatment setting.
