We specialize in school, graduation, and youth sports photography, but what truly sets us apart is the relationships we build with the organizations, schools, families, and communities we serve. As we continue expanding our Alberta operations, we are looking for a motivated and outgoing Alberta Territory Sales Representative to help us establish new relationships with schools and secure new school photography contracts.
This is a sales-focused, independent contract position. You will be responsible for identifying prospective schools, introducing Darby Photos, building relationships with decision-makers, presenting our services, following up with prospects, and ultimately securing new photography clients.
You will have significant freedom to determine how you approach the Alberta market, while receiving the support, resources, experience, and infrastructure of our established BC team.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys the challenge of sales and is motivated by results.
There is no traditional 9-to-5 office environment and no expectation that you simply follow a list of assigned leads. We are looking for someone who can identify opportunities, make connections, pick up the phone, send the email, walk into a school when appropriate, and confidently explain why Darby Photos would be a great photography partner.
The successful candidate will be comfortable hearing "no," persistent enough to continue following up, and personable enough to turn an initial conversation into a long-term business relationship.
This position is sales only. We are not hiring a photographer, and the only photo session work will be to allow familiarity with the product you are selling.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and research prospective school photography clients throughout the Greater Calgary area, surrounding communities, and the province of Alberta.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective schools and organizations.
- Make outbound phone calls, emails, and other forms of professional outreach to school administrators and decision-makers.
- Introduce Darby Photos and clearly communicate our services, value, and approach.
- Build genuine relationships with school administrators, staff, and other decision-makers.
- Arrange and conduct sales meetings and presentations with prospective clients.
- Follow up consistently with prospects throughout the sales process.
- Prepare and provide proposals and other sales materials with support from the Darby Photos team.
- Negotiate and secure new school photography contracts within established company guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of prospects, conversations, follow-ups, and opportunities.
- Monitor the Alberta market and identify new opportunities for Darby Photos.
- Represent Darby Photos professionally and positively within the Alberta school community.
- Work collaboratively with the BC-based management team to develop and execute an Alberta sales strategy.
- Provide regular updates regarding sales activity, opportunities, challenges, and results.
Requirements
- Proven ability to communicate confidently and professionally with business decision-makers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable, roadworthy vehicle.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
- Comfortable making cold calls and initiating conversations with people you have never met.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable working toward measurable sales goals.
- An open attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
- Successful criminal background check provided upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications & Personality Attributes
- Previous experience in sales, business development, account management, education, or customer relationship management is an asset.
- A business background or degree is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Existing relationships within the Calgary-area education community are a significant asset.
- Proven track record of developing relationships and securing new business.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to identify opportunities without being prompted.
- Confident, outgoing, personable, and comfortable approaching new people.
- Persistent without being pushy.
- Competitive and motivated by results.
- Comfortable hearing "no" and continuing to pursue an opportunity professionally.
- Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.

- Ability to represent a family business with enthusiasm and authenticity.
- Comfortable spending significant amounts of time on the road meeting prospective clients throughout the Calgary area.
Compensation
This is a commission-based contract position with a monthly base stipend.
- $2,000 monthly base stipend for the duration of the contract.
- Additional earnings are commission-based and tied to successfully securing new school photography clients.
- There is no cap on commission earnings. The more business you bring to Darby Photos, the more you earn.
- Detailed commission structure and payment terms will be discussed with qualified candidates during the interview process.
This structure is designed to provide a guaranteed monthly financial base while giving the successful candidate significant earning potential based directly on their sales performance.
Contract Term
September 15, 2026 – January 31, 2027
Exact starting date can be discussed, as the start date is flexible.
The primary objective of this contract is to establish a strong pipeline of Alberta school photography opportunities and secure new clients for upcoming photography seasons.
There is potential for the successful candidate to continue working with Darby Photos beyond the initial contract term based on performance, results, and the continued growth of our Alberta operations.
Location
The position is primarily based in the Greater Calgary area, with travel throughout Calgary and surrounding communities as required.
The successful candidate will be expected to spend time both developing leads remotely and meeting prospective clients in person.
Travel expenses related to approved business activities will be discussed as part of the contract.
