The Position:
The Operator is to set up, organize and prepare all aspects of the inline/extrusion process and at times to assist in the direction of helpers/packers. They will operate extruders/baggers efficiently with the highest possible output without sacrificing product quality while keeping scrap or wastage to a minimum. Set up inline/extrusion to comply with the customer’s product specifications whilst ensuring the correct blend of raw materials is being used and maintaining a clean organized, work environment to ensure the highest quality product is produced.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and run all extruders/baggers in your designated department as required: ensuring the correct heat profile for material, film/bag sizing, Equipment tensions, core size, gauge/gram weight, bubble size, trim size, wrinkles, creases, etc. maintain a clean & organized work environment, ensuring tools are in designated areas, Maintaining Order requirements with Quality Audits by hour/Roll/Layer, Prepare and or have staged the correct materials whether be Raw material, cores, cradles, cardboard, strapping, etc. for your shift & the first 3hrs of next scheduled run. Inline setups, troubleshooting, seals, basic knowledge of folds & Piles, equipment tensions, PTO adjustments, Peco setups, printing with ink when needed
- Complete Order Changes & Setups in Dedicated Departments (Extrusion/Inline/CoEx)
- Perform quality checks on a regular ongoing basis throughout the production run until completion which should include: gauge, size, TBX/Colour, material strength, clarity, film appearance, slip & anti-block, smoothness, free of wrinkles, die lines/fisheyes, creases/gels, stretch test, tensions, and anything else quality-related
- General Understanding of Material types and Heat Profiles related to Materials
- Lead by example to change cores/finished rolls, weights, correctly label, record information in PC, strap skids, Screens, Bubble setup, Quality Checks, Material Verification, Mixer Cleanout, Plant Cleanliness, etc.
- Thread All Lines in Tower and Equipment to your designated areas
- Maintain/Communicate to shipper all raw material extrusion/staging areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization; leave organized & clean for shift following
- Operate Following safe operating procedures, wear all required protective gear and adhere to all policies and procedures (fire, health & safety, WHMIS), Bring to attention to any concerns of safety
- Assist Helper in learning the department; the bubble, extruder, mixes/mixers, winders, Inline equipment & folds, other related equipment, outputs/Line speeds, threading, quality, safety, daily troubleshooting, etc.
- Basic Computer knowledge & Label making needs as required
- End of the day Clean up (blowdown/Master Sweep/Cardboard/Garbage’s) and Prep for next scheduled shift
- Open communication Following All Operators to discuss ongoing issues and to create continuously improvement
- Other related Duties as Requested and Required
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reduce & eliminate spills and waste, keeping material storage & extrusion areas clean, safe, and organized for current and next shifts;
- Maintain accurate, concise, timely, and legible information and record keeping;
- Shift Supervisor or Manager may have you change mixes as per needs required
- Provide proper care, storage, and disposal of waste, cardboard boxes, products & tools ensuring all are stored in the correct, designated areas;
- Possible back-up to operate the in-line bagging machine/equipment in times of need or requirement
- Ability to perform multiple tasks/functions alone, competently within a manufacturing production environment
- The practice of continuous improvement and the betterment of your departments
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12
- Minimum of 2-3 years of extrusion experience in a blown film environment; exceptions are made
- Familiar with Extrusion Manufacturing/Production process and procedures.
- Must have been an experienced Helper within Polyethics
- Attentive to detail, accuracy, well organized, follow direction, co-operative, willing to assist others in a team environment;
- Ability to perform basic math skills, understand percentages, weights, and production formulas;
- Solid communication skills, able to and communicate in a loud production factory environment;
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, moving up to 700 pounds using lift trucks/forklifts and moving mechanical equipment in a production location such as rollers, winders, hot extrusion dies & barrels, cutting knives.
- Forklift experience or in house training
Shift:
- Continental shift (2 weeks days, 2 weeks nights)
- 12-hour shifts ( working 84 hours in a two week period)
