ALL POSITIONS WITHIN THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT REQUIRE A CURRENT VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK (CANNOT BE OLDER THAN 3 MONTHS)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Diversity Education Teachers support the education of exceptional students by providing assessment, individualized and small group instruction, and collaborative classroom support. Working as part of the Inclusive Education team, they assist in developing and implementing adaptive programming, Individual Program Plans (IPP), and evidence-based strategies to support students with complex learning needs. This role involves collaborating with teachers, educational assistants, school administration, parents, and external agencies to monitor student progress, implement specialist recommendations, and support successful learning and transitions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Support and Instructional Collaboration– participate as an active member of the Inclusive Education team in carrying out Tsuut’ina Education’s vision. Develop classroom programming for students with complex learning needs. Participate in and facilitate differentiated instruction in classrooms. Collaborate with and support classroom teachers on matters relating to transition supports, program materials, instructional techniques, and student information. Assist with the transition of students with diverse needs from one grade to the next.
Student Assessment and Support Services– provide diagnostic and prescriptive services for students. Administer a variety of assessment tools; Level B certification is desirable. Monitor and implement recommendations made by specialists for students with complex learning needs. Manage all in-school data pertaining to students with complex learning needs.
Individual Program Planning and Monitoring– consult with classroom teachers in developing and maintaining student Individual Program Plans (IPP) and associated documentation. Communicate and consult with school administration and classroom teachers regarding the progress of students with complex learning needs, as well as decisions to refer students for assessment or counselling.
Communication and Collaboration– communicate and collaborate with the Inclusive Education Coordinator and Inclusive Lead Teacher, including forwarding all reports from outside agencies to them. Facilitate team meetings for students in the specialized supports program. Report to parents at each reporting period and as needed.
Professional Responsibilities– maintain current knowledge of recommended instructional strategies and evidence-based supports for teaching young complex learners. Be willing to engage in lifelong learning with respect to training and professional development. Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to a professional learning environment. Deal tactfully with staff, students, parents, and the public. Attend meetings as requested.
Perform additional duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.) or a related field.
Training or coursework related to Indigenous Education and Cultural Competency is an asset.
Knowledge of the latest education pedagogue and the 20th century learning and teaching methodology and tools.

General Employment Requirements:

Valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation.
Valid Interim Professional Certificate (IPC) or a Permanent Professional Certificate (PPC).
Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.
