Full job description

Future S.E.T. is seeking a Diversity, Equity & Youth Engagement Coordinator to support inclusive youth programming, community outreach, and engagement activities for Black youth, underserved youth, newcomer youth, racialized youth, low-income youth, and other young people who face barriers to opportunity.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about youth empowerment, equity, cultural inclusion, community development, and creating safe spaces where young people feel represented, supported, and encouraged to participate. The successful candidate will assist with youth outreach, workshop coordination, participant communication, event support, feedback collection, and engagement strategies that promote belonging, leadership, confidence, and access to meaningful opportunities.

Because our work is rooted in supporting Black youth and underserved communities, we are looking for someone who can bring strong cultural awareness, professionalism, empathy, and a positive community presence to the role. The ideal candidate should be able to represent the organization well, build trust with youth and families, and help create an environment where young people feel seen, respected, and encouraged.

This position will also support engagement with university and college-based student groups, including campus clubs, student associations, youth-led groups, Black student associations, cultural groups, and community-connected post-secondary initiatives. The coordinator will help build relationships with young leaders and support outreach efforts that connect students to meaningful programming, community service, leadership opportunities, and equity-focused initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The Diversity, Equity & Youth Engagement Coordinator will:

Support the planning and delivery of inclusive youth engagement activities, workshops, and community events.
Assist with outreach to youth, families, schools, grassroots groups, student groups, community organizations, and local partners.
Help connect with university and college groups, including Black student associations, cultural groups, campus clubs, and student-led organizations.
Support communication with student leaders, youth organizations, families, community partners, and campus groups.
Help create welcoming, culturally responsive, and youth-centered spaces for Black youth, racialized youth, newcomer youth, underserved youth, and other young people facing barriers.
Support participant registration, communication, attendance tracking, and follow-up.
Assist with preparing workshop materials, presentations, handouts, and youth engagement resources.
Help collect feedback, surveys, testimonials, and program data to measure impact.
Support social media and community communications related to youth programming.
Promote equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging throughout program activities.
Assist with identifying barriers youth may face when participating in programs and suggest practical ways to reduce those barriers.
Support youth leadership, confidence-building, civic engagement, and community participation.
Represent the organization professionally at outreach events, community activities, workshops, and partner meetings.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Interest in youth work, diversity, equity, inclusion, community engagement, education, social services, nonprofit programming, or student leadership.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work respectfully with youth from different cultural, racial, newcomer, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Comfort assisting with events, workshops, outreach, and group activities.
Basic computer skills, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, or social media platforms.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with community engagement, volunteering, student groups, campus clubs, youth leadership, outreach, or grassroots organizing is strongly preferred.
Candidates in their first or second year of post-secondary education, including college or university, are preferred but not required.
Lived experience, volunteer experience, or community experience connected to Black communities, racialized communities, newcomer communities, underserved communities, or equity-seeking groups is considered a strong asset.
A positive, respectful, and professional presence, with the ability to serve as a strong representative of the organization and the communities we support.

Preferred Background

We especially encourage applications from candidates who have experience participating in or supporting community-based initiatives, youth programs, student associations, Black student associations, cultural groups, volunteer projects, campus clubs, or equity-focused activities.

This role may be a strong fit for a student in their first or second year of college or university who is looking to build practical experience in youth engagement, nonprofit work, community outreach, equity-focused programming, and project coordination. However, post-secondary education is not mandatory. Applicants with strong community engagement experience, volunteer experience, leadership experience, or lived experience supporting diverse communities are also encouraged to apply.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
