ReStore Key Holder – Job Description

As a valued member of our team, you will help advance our strategy and mission of helping more families secure safe and affordable homes. The Key Holder has the delegated responsibility to support the work at the ReStore. They will portray a positive attitude, act as a model leader to other staff, volunteers, and the public, and communicate responsibly, professionally, and objectively. The Key Holder will ensure that all services are provided within the context of Habitat for Humanity HMD’s mission, vision, values, and policies and procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
● Utilize operational best practices to ensure merchandising standards are delivered and maintained daily for the best customer shopping experience
● Build customer loyalty by providing exceptional customer service, meeting customers’ needs, creating magical moments, and resolving customer disputes to achieve a positive outcome.
● Operate the cash register to efficiently service customers
● Support the implementation of donor and customer engagement initiatives.
● Maintain a high standard of discretion, integrity, and customer service in all interactions.
Merchandising
● Create eye-catching signage to increase visibility and sales, and ensure all sales and discounted product is marked down with appropriate signage to limit the need for bartering. Effectively utilize online sales tools such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji to market and promote products (with approval from the ReStore Manager)
● Work with all staff members to ensure that quality product flows consistently from the warehouse and is enticingly presented and displayed.
● Markdown or adjust pricing - only with signed approval from ReStore Manager
● Ensure product is tested, cleaned, and appropriately and fairly priced following pricing standards as set by HFH and utilizing online research to maximize sales potential. Ensure all commercial identification marks and UPCs on donated material are removed as per HFH guidelines
Operations
● Daily maintenance of customer areas. Performing daily safety inspections.
● Ensuring washrooms and volunteer areas are clean and neatly maintained
● Tracking and Ordering supplies ensuring budgets are adhered to.
● Ensure H&S Board is up to date, MSDS information is in place for products used in the store.
● Ensure the safety of fellow staff, volunteers, customers, donors, and products by following safety protocols.
● Assist with other store functions as required in the absence of the ReStore Manager
Administration and Financials
● Drive sales and strategically review and analyze sales and financial reports to develop action plans for improving store performance to assist the ReStore Manager.
● Ensure all daily cash management, reconciliation, bank deposits, and reporting metric requirements and processes are met. Collecting and reporting figures to the Affiliate Finance Office as required.
● Safeguarding property and persons by enforcing HFH HMD’s Loss Prevention policy.
Staff & Volunteer Engagement
● Provides training, guidance, coaching, encouragement, and empowerment, create a safe and supportive team-oriented environment in which staff can make a positive contribution to the effective operation of the affiliate, excel in their role, and engage in a rewarding atmosphere.
● Work with the ReStore Manager to identify volunteer needs for recruitment purposes.
● Assist with the orientation of new volunteers to the store’s operation, and support the volunteer skills-building which includes training, mentoring, and empowering all volunteers to experience a variety of roles and activities thereby increasing engagement and overall enjoyment. Continually find ways to improve the volunteer experience.
● Ensure volunteers present a professional image with Habitat attire (shirt or apron), the appropriate personal protective equipment, and name tags so customers can identify them.

Health and Safety
● Abide by the policies and procedures set by HFHHMD. Implement safe work practices at all times, and take no unnecessary risks. Working in a manner that meets all Health and Safety requirements to ensure a healthy and safe workplace
● Ensure safety hazards are identified, reported, and rectified, staff and volunteers are aware of hazards and wear appropriate PPE, all safety incidents and near-misses are documented, and corrective action is implemented.
● Complete and maintain required training (e.g., WHMIS, AODA, First Aid)
Supervisory
● The Key Holder has supervisory responsibilities overseeing staff and volunteers, and that all safety and security protocols are followed.
Other
● Knowledgeable about the organization’s vision, mission, principles, and organizational philosophy and incorporates these beliefs into everyday work
● Due to the changing nature of work and the work to be done, other duties may be deleted or assigned as necessary.
Job Specifications and Qualifications
Education or Experience
- Post- Secondary Education (Diploma/Degree) or 2+ years relevant experience,
preferably in a non-profit or retail setting
- Strong computer skills including demonstrated expertise using Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and Outlook) and social media applications
- Experience in customer service and customer relations
- Experience in a volunteer environment and working with volunteers
Mandatory Certifications
- Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check
- Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions
● Long periods of standing
● Lifting up to 50lbs
● Occasional work at multiple ReStore locations
