As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires. We preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manage public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

Role Responsibilities

Are you a strategic administrative leader who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-program environment? This is a unique opportunity to step into one of the two most senior administrative positions in the Region, where you will play a critical role in leading finance, contract administration, human resources, systems administration, records management, and client service functions. Reporting directly to the Regional Business Services Manager, this position is central to ensuring strong operational support across regional programs, branches, and ministry partners.

As a key member of the Regional Administrative Leadership team, this position leads the planning, coordination, and delivery of regional administrative services that support multiple programs, including Approvals, Compliance, and Resource Management, as well as cross-ministry partners. The role provides expert advice on administrative policy and procedures, ensures compliance with legislation and government processes, and contributes to regional and divisional business planning. It also provides direct leadership, mentorship, and development to senior administrative staff and indirect oversight to a broader administrative team.

Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leading the planning and implementation of regional administrative services across finance, contracts, human resources, systems, records, and client service functions.
Overseeing the preparation, monitoring, forecasting, and consolidation of multi-million-dollar program budgets.
Providing strategic advice and guidance on financial policies, procedures, contract administration, and administrative practices.
Coordinating year-end financial processes, payroll activities, reporting requirements, and regional contract delivery.
Supporting regional and divisional business planning by identifying administrative resource needs and implementing effective processes.
Evaluating administrative practices to ensure consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across the Region.
Supervising and mentoring administrative staff, while supporting performance management, learning plans, and workforce development.
Ensuring the consistent application of collective agreements, delegated human resource authorities, and payroll processes.
Establishing and maintaining administrative protocols, service standards, and strong working relationships with internal and external partners.
Managing regional facilities, fleet, telecommunications, office equipment, and records management systems to support business continuity and operational effectiveness.
Participating in occupational health and safety initiatives by supporting compliance, wellness, and safe work practices in daily operations.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:
A one-year related certificate such as Business or Finance and 2 years of related business or finance experience and supervisory experience.

Equivalency: Two ways

Directly related education or experience considered based on 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or,
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

Experience working in a government, public sector, or large multi-program organization.
Knowledge of records management, POPA, OH&S requirements, payroll processes, and facilities or fleet coordination.
Experience supporting cross-divisional or cross-ministry partnerships.
Experience providing finance and/or administrative support in emergency response or incident management environments.
Knowledge of administrative systems, process improvement, and service delivery standards.

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard work hours of 36.25 hours per week, 7.25 hours a day, Monday to Friday. Minimum travel is required.

Northern Allowance:
An employee residing above the 57th Parallel (i.e., High Level Forest Area) are eligible for a biweekly Northern allowance of $241.38.

Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
