About Hyland Landscapes

Hyland Landscapes is a design-build landscape construction company serving high-end residential clients throughout Metro Vancouver.

We specialize in creating custom outdoor spaces that combine thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and long-term durability. Our projects include architectural concrete, retaining walls, pools, outdoor living spaces, natural stone installations, custom carpentry, and complete landscape transformations.

We are looking for an experienced Forming Carpenter who takes pride in precision, works efficiently, and understands the importance of building quality foundations for exceptional landscape projects.

Position Overview

The Forming Carpenter is responsible for the layout, construction, and preparation of concrete formwork for a variety of landscape construction projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Crew Leads, equipment operators, and concrete crews.

The ideal candidate has experience with residential concrete forming and understands how to execute work accurately while maintaining production schedules and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Formwork & Concrete Preparation

Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and grade information.
Layout and construct concrete forms for walls, stairs, patios, pool surrounds, footings, curbs, and other landscape features.
Verify dimensions, elevations, slopes, and alignments before concrete placement.
Install formwork that meets design, engineering, and quality requirements.
Assist with reinforcing steel placement and concrete preparation.
Ensure forms are properly braced and capable of withstanding concrete loads.
Strip, clean, and maintain formwork materials following pours.

Site Execution

Coordinate with Project Managers, Crew Leads, and concrete crews to maintain project schedules.
Identify site challenges and contribute practical solutions.
Maintain organized work areas and staging locations.
Assist with general construction activities as required.

Safety & Equipment

Follow company safety policies and WorkSafeBC requirements.
Operate power tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Participate in daily safety discussions and hazard assessments.

Qualifications

Required

Minimum 3 years of experience in concrete forming or related construction work.
Strong understanding of concrete formwork principles and construction methods.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and grade information.
Experience with residential or commercial concrete projects.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred

Experience with architectural and exposed concrete.
Experience with retaining walls, stairs, and structural concrete.
Experience operating skid steers, mini excavators, or compact equipment.
Occupational First Aid certification.
Experience working within landscape construction environments.
