Buchanan Technologies is searching for a Senior Business Analyst for a contract opportunity with our Employer of Choice client.
The Senior Business Analyst will support an Application Portfolio Modernization, APM, program focused on maintaining a portfolio of software applications at the desired condition level. This includes assessing the technical and functional state of software applications and supporting upgrade, remediation, replacement, or retirement activities.
In this role, the successful candidate will serve as a Technical Business Analyst, bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. The candidate will support the migration of legacy applications, such as MS Access, VB6, PHP, and .NET, into modern environments such as SharePoint Online, PowerApps, and ServiceNow.
The candidate will also support the implementation and ongoing use of the ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture, EA, module, along with ServiceNow platform capabilities including CMDB and Application Portfolio Management.
Responsibilities
Business and Technical Analysis
- Conduct requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders to capture business needs.
- Develop detailed Business Requirements Documents, BRDs, Functional Specifications, FSDs, and user stories in alignment with enterprise standards.
- Produce process maps, workflow diagrams, and data flow documentation to illustrate current-state and future-state processes.
- Perform gap and impact analyses to evaluate proposed system or process changes.
Legacy Discovery and Assessment
- Conduct discovery sessions to analyze legacy application architectures and dependencies, including MS Access, VB6, PHP, and .NET applications.
- Define migration strategies, such as retire, re-platform, or rebuild, based on business value and technical feasibility.
ServiceNow Platform Support
- Provide day-to-day functional and technical support for ServiceNow modules, including Enterprise Architecture, EA, CMDB, and Application Portfolio Management, APM.
- Manage configuration and enhancement requests while ensuring alignment with governance and platform best practices.
- Collaborate with developers and platform owners to implement and test ServiceNow enhancements and integrations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, customizations, and workflows.
Testing and Implementation Support
- Lead User Acceptance Testing, UAT, and coordinate end-to-end testing to validate that modernized applications meet business requirements.
- Develop user training materials and standard operating procedures, SOPs, to support adoption of new platforms.
Process Improvement and Governance
- Identify opportunities to automate or streamline business and IT processes within ServiceNow.
- Participate in ServiceNow governance and Change Advisory Board, CAB, meetings.
- Support the definition and maintenance of ServiceNow standards, best practices, and documentation templates.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and platform roadmap planning.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between business, IT, and architecture teams to ensure clarity and alignment of priorities.
- Support UAT activities and coordinate feedback incorporation.
- Provide training materials, user guides, or workshops to increase adoption of new features and modules.
Project and Delivery Support
- Contribute to project plans, timelines, and milestones for ServiceNow enhancements and Enterprise Architecture initiatives.
- Track and report on deliverable progress, risks, and dependencies.
- Ensure deliverables align with organizational goals and architecture standards.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Information Technology Management, Business Management, or a related field, with at least 5 years of related work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong Business Analysis experience, including requirements gathering, process mapping, gap analysis, and documentation.
- Technical analysis and troubleshooting experience for enterprise platforms and integrations.
- Experience supporting or administering the ServiceNow platform, especially:
- Configuration Management Database, CMDB
- Enterprise Architecture, EA, module or related components
- ITIL processes and IT Service Management, ITSM, practices
- SQL or data querying tools for reporting and analysis
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Collaborative and adaptable approach in cross-functional environments.
Mandatory Certification
Candidates must have proof of the following certification available for submission:
- Certified Business Analysis Professional, CBAP, designation in good standing with the International Institute of Business Analysis, IIBA
Nice-to-Have Skills and Knowledge
- Experience with ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture module, Application Portfolio Management, APM, or IT Business Management, ITBM.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow CSDM, Common Service Data Model, and CMDB design best practices.
- Experience supporting Enterprise Architecture teams or portfolio management initiatives.
- Understanding of IT strategy, capability modeling, and application rationalization.
Nice-to-Have Certifications
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator
- ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist, CIS - APM or EA
- ITIL v4 Foundation
Additional Requirements
- Must be available to work onsite in Brampton a minimum of 2 days per week.
- Must be available for the full duration of the assignment.
- Must be able to attend onsite for onboarding and offboarding activities.
- Candidates should be prepared to provide specific examples demonstrating their experience with business analysis, ServiceNow platform support, CMDB, Enterprise Architecture, APM, legacy application modernization, UAT, and stakeholder collaboration.
Pay: $75.00-$80.00 per hour
