BSG customizes services to the exact needs and locations of clients, ensuring that solutions meet precise specifications, including logistics, crew transfers, housekeeping, catering, and the fulfillment of all HSE requirements.

The Opportunity

The Chief Engineer is a senior leadership position responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and operation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on the floatel alongside in Canada. The Chief Engineer ensures the safe and efficient functioning of the floatel's machinery and equipment while overseeing the engineering department and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Engineering Operations:

Assume full responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all machinery and equipment on the floatel.
Monitor and optimize the performance of propulsion, power generation, HVAC, plumbing, and other auxiliary systems.
Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs with engineering staff and external contractors.

Safety and Compliance:

Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with maritime regulations and industry standards.
Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety hazards or equipment deficiencies.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and safety drills.
Collaborate with relevant authorities and agencies to meet safety and environmental compliance requirements.

Team Management:

Lead and manage the engineering department, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.
Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and safety consciousness.
Delegate responsibilities and supervise engineering staff to ensure efficient operations.
Provide guidance and support to the team in handling maintenance tasks and addressing technical challenges.

Budget and Inventory Management:

Develop and manage the engineering department budget, monitoring expenses and optimizing costs.
Maintain inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and supplies required for maintenance and repairs.
Monitor procurement activities, ensuring timely delivery of required items within budgetary constraints.
Collaborate with procurement and finance departments to ensure cost-effective operations.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate engineering logs, records, and reports related to vessel operations and maintenance.
Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and budget utilization.
Liaise with classification societies, regulatory bodies, and auditors for inspections and audits.
Stay updated with industry regulations, technological advancements, and best practices in marine engineering.

Qualifications

STCW Reg. III/2 chief engineer officers on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000 kW propulsion power or more.
Extensive experience in marine engineering, including experience as Chief Engineer on marine vessels or floatels.
STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training, and instruction for all seafarers
STCW Reg. VI/2, competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
STCW Reg. VI/3 advanced firefighting
STCW Reg. VI/6 security-related training and instruction for all seafarers
STCW Crisis management and human behavior training
STCW Crowd management training
STCW Special training for Ro/Ro Passengers ships
3-5 years of previous experience as a Chief Engineer or in a similar role within the maritime industry, preferably onboard a cruise ship or other passenger vessel
Excellent comprehension and command of the English language (written & verbal);
Microsoft Office knowledge
Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.

Working Conditions

Constant standing and walking throughout the shift
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting
Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps
