Full job description

This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day.

Location - This role is fully remote.

Reporting to the Research Associate, the Research Coordinator will support ongoing research projects and grant development for future research competitions.

The role will include providing both administrative and research tasks (with coaching and mentorship provided). Ongoing research projects primarily relate to older adults’ care during transitions to and from facility-based care settings and support is required primarily for data analysis, report writing and grant application development for future research projects. The research projects are funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Killam Trust and the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta (MNA). The incumbent will participate in project planning, team meetings, data synthesis and interpretation of findings. If authorship requirements are met, the incumbent may be included as a co-author on relevant manuscripts arising from this work.

Research support (60%):

Manages timelines and target deadlines for research project deliverables and milestones, ensuring that research project deadlines are met by monitoring progress against a baseline plan and sharing updates during regular check-ins with the project supervisor.
Coordinates with team members for project activities that need completion and conducts regular follow-ups
Contributes to report writing: Under the supervision of the project supervisor, the research coordinator will support in compiling information for the report, preparing an initial draft for review by the project supervisor, and ensuring that the report adheres to the submission guidelines.
Supports and contributes to grant application development and dissemination of research findings
Contributes to quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis as needed and appropriate, under the supervision of the project supervisor.

Administrative support (30%):

Provides administrative support as needed (e.g. CV and resume management, organizing file folders, formatting and submitting manuscripts for submission to academic journals, ethics application submission or renewal)
Supports workshop planning and implementation: ensure that all logistics for the workshop are completed, such as room bookings and flight arrangements for international team members.
Communicate with the team regarding reimbursement procedures, scheduling, booking details, and workshop program activities.

Supervision/Mentorship (10%):

Provides support for onboarding and general mentorship within the research program.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in a related discipline such as nursing, sociology, political science, women’s studies, Indigenous studies, community health or public health is required
Currently engaged in equity-oriented research.
Training in qualitative and/or quantitative social or health science research methods
Demonstrated initiative, independence, organization and productivity
Experience coordinating social/health science research projects
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent writing ability
Sensitivity to ethical issues; ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

The following qualifications are an asset:

A background in nursing or other health sciences profession
Mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative), various knowledge synthesis research experiences
Experience in research focused on older adults’ care or quality of life
Experience with SPSS, STATA, and/or SAS
Experience with Indigenous research methods and/or knowledge of critical theory, anti-racism theory, and postcolonial theory will be an asset.
Experience working with Indigenous organizations
Familiarity with the University of Alberta administrative structure, policies and procedures about research
