Full job description

Wills and Estates Law Clerk

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Type: Full-time, permanent, current vacancy

The Role:

A professional services organization is seeking a Wills & Estates Law Clerk with 3+ years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

Your Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for drafting Wills, Codicils, and Powers of Attorney, assisting with estate planning documents, insurance trust agreements, preparing and handling probate applications, estate administration, including preparation of estate accounting, serving and filing documents with the court, regularly communicating with clients and other professionals, and assisting with any other duties that may be assigned.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must enjoy working with people and has a solid knowledge of legal procedures, statutes, and regulations, the flexibility to adapt to different tasks, exceptional multi-tasking skills, is accurate and able to edit and format documents, works well independently and in a team, follows instructions with minimal supervision, takes initiative, is a problem-solver, uses good judgment and is resourceful, has a strong ability to communicate in a professional manner, has a willingness to continuously learn, works collaboratively in a workplace, and has proficient computer skills.

You must have a minimum of a law clerk diploma, or equivalent combination of work experience and education, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Wills and/or Estates Law Clerk.

You must be able to work in the office, but some remote work may be possible.

Salary & Benefits:

Compensation for this position starts at $55,000.00 per year, with final salary determined based on experience and qualifications. A competitive benefits package and matching group RRSP is also offered.
