Job Description
Madison Taylor Design is seeking an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist to join our growing team.
This role is focused on the technical development, coordination, and delivery of custom residential projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing detailed drawing packages, coordinating consultants, navigating planning and approval processes, and supporting projects through permit and construction documentation.
This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys technical problem solving, working through complex site constraints, and coordinating the many moving pieces required to bring exceptional residential projects to life.
Key ResponsibilitiesArchitectural Drafting & Technical Documentation
- Develop detailed architectural drawing packages for custom residential projects from preliminary design through construction documentation.
- Produce accurate site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and permit drawings.
- Translate approved design concepts into practical, buildable solutions while maintaining design intent.
- Develop and maintain Revit models throughout all project phases.
- Ensure drawings meet company standards and are coordinated, accurate, and ready for submission or construction.
- Apply a strong understanding of residential construction methods, detailing, and building systems throughout project development.
Planning Approvals & Municipal Coordination
- Prepare and coordinate drawing packages and supporting documentation for municipal approvals, conservation authority applications, minor variances, zoning reviews, and other planning processes.
- Analyze zoning requirements, development constraints, environmental considerations, and site-specific regulations.
- Coordinate directly with municipalities, conservation authorities, planning consultants, and regulatory agencies throughout the approval process.
- Assist in developing design and site planning solutions that balance client goals with regulatory requirements.
- Track approval timelines and coordinate responses to agency comments and requirements.
Consultant Coordination
- Coordinate project information with structural, civil, mechanical, landscape, surveying, environmental, geotechnical, arborist, and planning consultants.
- Review consultant drawings and reports to ensure consistency and integration with architectural documentation.
- Manage consultant deliverables and ensure information is incorporated into project drawings accurately and efficiently.
- Participate in project meetings and maintain clear communication between consultants, clients, contractors, and internal team members.
Permit & Construction Documentation
- Develop comprehensive permit and construction drawing packages for custom residential projects.
- Coordinate revisions and updates throughout planning, permitting, and construction phases.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable zoning by-laws, Ontario Building Code requirements, and municipal regulations.
- Assist project teams in resolving technical challenges throughout project delivery.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Support quality control reviews and company drafting standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation, coordination, and project delivery processes.
- Collaborate closely with architectural designers, interior designers, landscape architects, and construction team members to deliver fully integrated project solutions.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience preparing architectural construction documentation for custom residential projects within Canada.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit.
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods, detailing, and building systems within Ontario.
- Experience coordinating planning approvals, municipal applications, and consultant teams.
- Working knowledge of zoning by-laws, conservation authority requirements, and the Ontario Building Code.
- Experience preparing detailed permit and construction drawing packages for large scale, custom residential buildings.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
