This role involves managing shelter intake processes, assessing client needs, conducting safety planning, and ensuring access to appropriate supports and resources. Working from anti-oppressive, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed frameworks, the Intake Worker ensures equitable and compassionate care for diverse populations, including newcomers, racialized communities, persons with disabilities, gender-diverse individuals, and children impacted by trauma.</div><div>________________________________________</div><div>Key Responsibilities</div><div>Client Support and Crisis Intervention</div><div>• Complete intake interviews, assessments, and necessary documentation for clients entering the shelter.</div><div>• Provide immediate crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning for women and children.</div><div>• Offer practical supports such as transportation vouchers, food, clothing, emergency funds, and referrals.</div><div>• Support children and youth, including those with special needs, through trauma-informed care and activity planning.</div><div>• Work collaboratively with community partners and internal programs to address clients' legal, housing, counseling, and health needs.</div><div>• Provide emotional support, information, and resources to women experiencing complex trauma, addictions, or mental health challenges.</div><div>Administration and Shelter Operations</div><div>• Ensure intake forms, case files, and all documentation are completed accurately and confidentially.</div><div>• Maintain client activity logs, case notes, and service statistics.</div><div>• Conduct regular safety and security checks to maintain a safe shelter environment.</div><div>• Manage follow-ups with external agencies and referrals, ensuring clients receive necessary ongoing support.</div><div>• Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative planning for service delivery.</div><div>Programs and Outreach</div><div>• Engage in shelter and community-based programs that empower women and children, including group facilitation and resource referrals.</div><div>• Support specialized programs such as peer support, gender-diverse survivor services, and human trafficking initiatives.</div><div>• Participate in activities targeting boys and men to prevent GBV and promote healthy relationships.</div><div>• Assist with summer programs, including camp coordination and therapeutic activities for children residing in the shelter and the broader community.</div><div>________________________________________</div><div>Qualifications</div><div>• Enrolled in or completion of a post-secondary program in Social Work, Psychology, Women’s and Gender Studies, Child and Youth Work, or a related field.</div><div>• Experience working with survivors of GBV, IPV, trauma, or marginalized populations is an asset.</div><div>• Knowledge of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and harm reduction frameworks.</div><div>• Strong crisis intervention, risk assessment, and case management skills.</div><div>• Ability to work with diverse populations, including racialized communities, newcomers, gender-diverse individuals, and children exposed to trauma.</div><div>• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to maintain confidentiality.</div><div>• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and documentation systems.</div><div>• Current CPR/First Aid Certification and Vulnerable Sector Screening (or willingness to obtain).</div><div>• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.</div><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:left"><b>Compensation: </b></p>The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23.<p style="text-align:left">Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.</p><p></p><p></p><p>The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
