Stealth Recruiting is seeking a skilled Flare Stack Design Technician for a confidential client specializing in industrial, oil and gas, petrochemical, and energy-related projects. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented technical professional with experience preparing design drawings, layouts, fabrication packages, and technical documentation for flare stacks, combustion systems, pressure equipment, and related process equipment.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, fabrication, project management, and field teams to support the design and delivery of safe, reliable, and code-compliant flare stack systems.
Key Responsibilities
The Flare Stack Design Technician will be responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings and design packages for flare stack systems and related equipment. This may include general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, piping layouts, structural details, platforms, ladders, supports, burner assemblies, ignition systems, and associated components.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop 2D and/or 3D design drawings for flare stacks, knock-out drums, piping, structural supports, access platforms, ladders, and related equipment.
- Prepare fabrication drawings, bills of materials, material take-offs, and drawing packages for shop and field use.
- Interpret client specifications, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, engineering sketches, and project requirements.
- Support the design of flare stack assemblies, including stack sections, base plates, guy wire systems, burner tips, pilots, ignition panels, and utility connections.
- Coordinate with engineers to ensure designs meet applicable industry codes, client standards, and project requirements.
- Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, fit-up, and fabrication feasibility.
- Revise drawings based on engineering comments, client feedback, shop input, or field redlines.
- Assist with equipment layouts, lifting plans, transportation considerations, and installation details.
- Maintain organized drawing files, revision history, and technical documentation.
- Communicate with project managers, engineers, vendors, fabricators, and field personnel to resolve technical questions.
- Support continuous improvement of design templates, drawing standards, and drafting procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in drafting, mechanical design, engineering design technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience in industrial equipment design, preferably related to flare stacks, combustion systems, pressure equipment, piping, or structural steel.
- Proficiency with design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, CADWorx, or similar platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, fabrication drawings, engineering sketches, and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards, welding symbols, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication practices.
- Familiarity with industrial piping, structural supports, access platforms, ladders, and equipment layout.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, complete drawing packages.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with engineering, fabrication, and field teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience designing or drafting flare stacks, burner systems, thermal oxidizers, or other combustion-related equipment.
- Experience with oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, midstream, or industrial plant projects.
- Working knowledge of relevant standards such as API, ASME, CSA, ANSI, or applicable client specifications.
- Experience preparing bills of materials and fabrication packages for pressure equipment, piping, or structural assemblies.
- Familiarity with shop fabrication, welding, steel detailing, and field installation practices.
- Experience working with 3D models, plant layouts, skid packages, or modular equipment.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is practical, technically strong, and comfortable working in a project-driven environment. They understand how drawings are used in the shop and in the field, and they take pride in producing clear, accurate, and buildable design packages. They are collaborative, organized, and able to communicate effectively with engineers, fabricators, vendors, and clients.
Compensation and Benefits
The client offers a competitive compensation package based on experience, along with opportunities for professional growth, technical development, and involvement in specialized industrial projects.
