Full job description

Ideal candidates will possess a Leadership Certification or be willing to do work towards getting certification. As part of the administration team it is important that our vice principal be reliable, flexible, and have an overall positive attitude. The following are some of the roles and responsibilities expected in a successful applicant.

Instructional Leadership:

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the Alberta Programs of Study (POS) and support staff in aligning instruction, assessment, and learning activities with provincial expectations.
Take an active role in supporting teachers with yearly, term, and monthly planning to ensure coherent and effective delivery of the Alberta curriculum.
Support teachers on implementation of school wide literacy programs such as: Daily Five, UFLI, 6-min solution, and Heggerty.

School Operations

Manage planned and unplanned teacher absences by communicating with substitute teachers.
Serve as an effective representative of the school when interacting with parents, guests, donors, and community organizations.
Work collaboratively with the Parent Advisory Council.
Take an active role in supporting the school's enrollment growth initiatives and long-term sustainability and implementing school policies.

Student Behaviour and Discipline

Address student behavioural concerns promptly, fairly, and consistently using restorative, educational, and progressive discipline practices.
Inform and collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians and students, regarding behavioural incidents, disciplinary decisions, and strategies to support positive student behaviour.

Organization & Planning:

Successful candidate will be responsible for scheduling some/all of the following:

Establish Fire and Lockdown drill schedule for the year.
With the administrative team, plan monthly staff meetings.
Coordinate and support school-wide events such as graduation ceremonies, awards presentations, open houses, parent engagement activities, cultural celebrations, and special assemblies.

Assessment Implementation:

Successful candidate will have knowledge of, experience with, and/or be willing to take training in literacy and numeracy assessments. These skills will include, but not be limited to:

Demonstrate knowledge in assessment tools, such as provincial screening, PAT’s and Acadience assessments.
Establish and monitor school-wide benchmark literacy and numeracy assessment schedules, ensuring consistency and fidelity in screening, progress monitoring, and intervention (if needed).
Develop and oversee PAT schedules, including student groupings, supervision assignments, accommodations, and communication with staff and families.
Support teachers in interpreting assessment results to identify student and progress monitoring needs, ensuring timely communication with students and parents/guardians.

Preferred Qualifications:

Alberta Leadership Certification (LQS) or taking courses towards LQS completion
Master's degree in Educational Leadership or Education
