Full job description

Located in Ontario’s cottage country, the Town of Huntsville is the largest community in the District Municipality of Muskoka and in proximity to the west side of Algonquin Park. Within this exciting setting, the Town of Huntsville has a vibrant downtown and offers many cultural and outdoor recreational opportunities.

We are looking for the following position to complement our Operations Division:

Reporting to the Lead Hands, the Parks Attendant will ensure the proper care of the Town of Huntsville horticulture system including the performance of planning and maintenance tasks related to the care of municipal gardens, annual and perennial displays, shrubs and trees. The Park Attendant is also responsible for the operation of fleet vehicles-truck and trailer, and other various equipment to ensure the general maintenance and upkeep of the parks systems which include grass cutting, sports field maintenance, debris pick-up, special events set-up and other duties as assigned.

Between November 1st and April 15th this position will be scheduled as part of the winter operations shift rotation. Shifts will be scheduled in advance of the season across 7 days of the week, (starting as early as 4:00am). Employees are also on call on a rotating basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Additional hours may also need to be worked outside of the scheduled shifts but they will not exceed the daily hours of work legislation as per the Employment Standards Act.

Qualifications:

Completed high school or equivalent
Horticulture and sports field maintenance experience
Snow removal experience an asset
Must possess excellent customer service skills
Able to perform various duties in a range of weather conditions
Must have a valid Class G driver’s licence.

The hourly rate for this position is $30.63 to $33.77 and includes a comprehensive benefit package. Hours of work are 40 hours per week and will include weekends, nights and holidays and may be on call during winter operations.
