Full job description

ROLE OVERVIEW: We are seeking a Licensed Paralegal to support our legal and collection activities related to Landlord and Tenant matters.

This is an in-office, full-time contract position based in London, ON, for a duration of six (6) months, with potential for permanent employment.

Duties and responsibilities includes:

Provide excellent customer service using empathy, sound judgement, objectivity, and sensitivity towards a diverse group of clienteles
Reconcile tenant disputes
Obtain Orders at the Landlord and Tenant Board
Participate in Mediations and Hearings at the Landlord and Tenant Board
Draft and serve Landlord Notices and File Landlord and Tenant Board Applications
Enforce payment at the Landlord and Tenant Board using their prescribed forms
Monitor and maintain accurate, up-to-date records for client accounts, regularly reviewing accounts in arrears to ensure appropriate collection actions are taken
Contact clients regarding overdue accounts through telephone, email, and written correspondence, ensuring timely follow-up when responses are not received
Respond to customer inquiries in a professional manner, including providing account statements and reconciliations, resolving payment discrepancies or disputes, and processing payments and refunds as required
Investigate and locate debtors when contact information is outdated or unavailable, and work with them to establish suitable payment arrangements
Assess delinquent accounts and recommend further collection actions or potential discontinuation of services when payments are not forthcoming, while coordinating with internal departments as required
Prepare and maintain reports related to collection activities, account status, and recovery progress for internal review and management
Ensure all collection activities comply with company policies and applicable regulations while maintaining positive client relationships
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

P1 Paralegal License from the Law Society of Ontario
Collections experience (preferred)
Strong knowledge and five (5) years working experience with:
Residential Tenancies Act
Statutory Powers Procedures Act
Rental Fairness Act
Landlord and Tenant Board
Legal and Court procedures and practices
Small Claims Court experience preferred
Administrative skills relating to paper or electronic record keeping
Strong oral and written communication skills
