Hours per Week: 35

Salary Grade 14

The base salary will be $66,350 - $94,700 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Please note, this is a temporary full time contract opportunity with an expected end date of February 29, 2028.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Recreation & Active Well-being, the Program Coordinator, Aquatics is responsible for the supervision and operation of the Western Student Recreation aquatics programming and staff. The position oversees the development, administration, delivery, and assessment of aquatic programs and services, promoting safe, effective and innovative aquatic programs. The goal is to meet and exceed the needs of the Western and London community, while ensuring a safe environment for participants and staff in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

Undergraduate Degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management, Physical Education or other relevant field of study
Hold and maintain current credentials, a minimum of
- National Lifeguard
- Standard First Aid/CPR-C and AED
- Lifesaving Society Swim/Lifesaving Instructor and or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- First Aid Instructor
- Aquatic Supervisory Training or Aquatic Management Training, High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development, Aqua Fitness
Certified Pool Operator

Experience:

5 years’ experience with aquatic programming and lifeguard supervisory experience
Experience recruiting, training and supervising staff is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

In-depth knowledge in the aquatic field (technical, health and safety), requiring demonstrated expertise of provincial and national swim certification programs, standards, and best practices
Service-oriented and capable of supporting a wide variety of constituents and determining the most appropriate action when handling customer service issues
Ability to exercise discretion, good judgement, and solid decision-making, with a thorough knowledge of emergency procedures
Analytical, interpretive and problem-solving skills with ability to research, analyze, and formulate solutions to complex issues
Ability to research and recommend new program offerings and solutions
Ability to determine scheduling priorities, and allocate work, resources and facilities
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word)
Proven ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently
Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations with potential conflict
Able to build and maintain working relationships with other departments, key business partners and external agencies (e.g. community sports organizations)
Demonstrated analytical ability and understanding of key financial concepts
