The Job
Reporting to the Quality Inn & Conference Centre/Comfort Inn & Suites Kingston Central, the General Labourer plays a key role in supporting renovation projects at the Quality Inn & Conference Centre Kingston Central and Comfort Suites Kingston Central and The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kingston Central. This position is responsible for assisting with a variety of construction and maintenance tasks, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.

What You'll Do
- Support all phases of hotel renovation projects, including demolition, preparation, execution, and final clean-up of work areas.
- Perform surface preparation and finishing tasks, including sanding, patching, and painting, to ensure a high-quality, professional finish.
- Safely remove materials such as drywall, carpeting, and other fixtures in preparation for renovation work.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment as required.
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools, as well as construction equipment, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assist skilled trades and equipment operators with various tasks to support project timelines and completion.
- Mix, pour, and spread construction materials (e.g., adhesives, compounds) as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment, including the removal of debris, rubble, and waste materials.
- Safely handle and dispose of chemical spills and other contaminants in accordance with safety standards.
- Sort, clean, and store reusable or salvaged materials where applicable.
- Monitor and tend to equipment and machinery used in renovation activities.
- Move, lift, and reposition furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) to support renovation activities and room readiness.
- Assist with the removal and installation of carpeting, flooring, and baseboards as required.
- Protect existing hotel assets (e.g., furniture, walls, flooring) using coverings and barriers during renovation work.
- Set up and dismantle temporary workspaces, including barriers, signage, and protective materials in guest and back-of-house areas.
- Support minor installation tasks such as fixtures, hardware, and finishing elements under direction.
- Ensure renovation work areas are secured and safe, particularly in guest-facing or occupied areas of the hotel.
- Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or material shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of tools, materials, and supplies for renovation projects.
- Follow schedules and timelines to minimize disruption to hotel operations and guest experience.
- Work in coordination with other departments (e.g., Housekeeping, Maintenance, Front Desk) to ensure smooth execution of renovation work.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including WHMIS, and adhere to company and industry safety standards at all times.
- Work collaboratively with team members while also demonstrating the ability to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.

Who We're Looking For
- Completion of a secondary school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of post-secondary education, certification, or training in a related field considered an asset.
- Minimum of one (1) year of carpentry or general construction experience required.
- Demonstrated experience with painting, basic electrical work, and general handyman tasks.
- Proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to make safe, effective decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (both verbal and written) to understand instructions, safety procedures, and interact with team members and guests.
- Ability to follow instructions and direction accurately to ensure tasks are completed to required standards.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality of work.
- Consistently follows all safety procedures, policies, and industry standards to maintain a safe work environment.
- Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on renovation schedules and operational needs.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with co-workers, supervisors, and other departments.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse team environment.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, managers, and guests.
- Physically capable of meeting the demands of the position, including heavy lifting, working at heights (e.g., ladders), bending, and standing or walking for extended periods.
