About the Project
Little Learners Collective is an innovative school-readiness pilot funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The program supports children ages 3–6 and their caregivers through integrated early learning experiences designed to strengthen child development, caregiver confidence, family belonging, and community connection. The program has a strong focus on reducing social isolation and strengthening caregiver/child engagement, capacity and belonging.
Delivered from PRC’s Sandy Hill resource hub, the pilot integrates three program streams:
- Little Sparks – play-based weekly drop-in sessions
- Learning Leaders – structured learning cohorts for children and caregivers
- Mindful Movers – movement, mindfulness, and co-regulation programming
The Facilitator will work closely with the Lead Program Coordinator to support program delivery, participant engagement, administration, and ongoing program improvement. The position requires regular weekend availability, as programming will primarily occur on Saturdays and Sundays.
This position is based on and supports the implementation of the Little Learners Collective pilot model and contributes directly to achieving project outcomes and learning goals.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Facilitator will support the delivery of engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate programming for children and caregivers participating in the Little Learners Collective pilot. Working under the direction of the Lead Program Coordinator, the Facilitator will assist with session preparation, program facilitation, participant outreach, administrative tasks, data collection, and community engagement activities.
The ideal candidate is energetic, relationship-focused, organized, and passionate about supporting young children and families. They are comfortable facilitating group activities, adapting to participant needs, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Participant Engagement
- Facilitate and co-facilitate Little Learners Collective program sessions alongside the Lead Program Coordinator.
- Support delivery of Little Sparks, Learning Leaders, and Mindful Movers programming.
- Create welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environments for children and caregivers.
- Support caregiver engagement activities that foster connection, belonging, and peer support.
- Assist with program set-up, take-down, material preparation, and room organization.
- Model positive interactions and support children’s social-emotional development through play-based learning approaches.
- Build positive relationships with participating families and respond to participant needs in a respectful and supportive manner.
Program Administration & Coordination
- Complete attendance tracking and maintain participant records.
- Assist with registration processes, participant follow-up, and communication with families.
- Support preparation of program materials, supplies, and resource kits.
- Help maintain inventories and organize program resources.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and training opportunities.
- Complete administrative tasks during weekday daytime hours as assigned.
Evaluation & Data Collection
- Assist with implementation of program evaluation tools, surveys, observations, and feedback collection.
- Support documentation of participant experiences, outcomes, and success stories.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to ongoing learning and program improvement activities.
- Identify emerging participant needs and communicate observations to the Lead Program Coordinator.
Community Outreach & Inclusion
- Support outreach and recruitment activities to engage families from diverse communities.
- Help promote programs through community events, partner networks, and PRC communication channels.
- Contribute to creating culturally responsive and linguistically accessible programming experiences.
- Support families in connecting with community resources and services when appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Community Development, Education, Recreation, or a related field.
Required Experience
- Experience working with children ages 3–6 and their caregivers in educational, recreational, community, or family support settings.
- Knowledge of child development and play-based learning principles.
- Experience facilitating or supporting group activities for children and families.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also managing assigned responsibilities independently.
- Experience working with diverse communities using inclusive, strengths-based approaches.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Assets
- Familiarity with Ontario early learning frameworks and school readiness programming.
- Experience supporting newcomer, low-income, and equity-deserving communities.
- Experience with participant data collection or program evaluation activities.
- Fluency in French and/or Arabic.
- Ability to communicate in additional languages reflective of Ottawa’s diverse communities.
- Lived experience connected to the communities served by the program.
Language Requirements
- Fluent in English (oral and written).
- French and/or Arabic language skills are considered a strong asset.
- Additional multilingual capacity is highly valued.
Additional Requirements
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Ability to work in person at PRC's Sandy Hill Resource Hub.
- Reliable transportation to program locations.
- Availability to work regularly on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Some weekday daytime availability for administrative, planning, and team meetings.
- Ability to lift and transport program materials and equipment as required.
Compensation & Benefits
- $27.00-$29.00/hour
- 8-month temporary contract (August 2026 – March 2027)
