Hughes Collective is pleased to present an exciting opportunity on behalf of our client.

Role: Collection, Specialist

Location: Regina or Saskatoon, SK (Hybrid)

Reporting to: Manager, Collection

Our Client

Our client is a not-for-profit organization responsible for delivering Saskatchewan’s province-wide household packaging and paper recycling program. The work is carried out in collaboration with communities across the province, including municipalities, First Nations, Métis communities, businesses, and service providers, to ensure recycling systems operate effectively across a wide range of local contexts. Behind the program is a small, dedicated team known for being collaborative, approachable, and invested in the work.

As Saskatchewan moves toward a full extended producer responsibility model, our client is taking on an expanded role that brings both greater accountability and greater opportunity to improve how recycling is done across the province.

The Opportunity

As a Collection Specialist, you will be part of a small team carrying a lot of responsibility. Saskatchewan’s household recycling system is expanding, and much of the work is happening one conversation, one site visit, and one decision at a time. You will spend your days working directly with collectors and local partners, listening to what is working, addressing what is not, and helping people navigate change with clarity and fairness.

This role puts you face to face with the recycling system itself. Some days you will be on the road, standing in depots, meeting with collection partners and engaging on recycling operations in various communities. Other days you will be following up on issues, untangling challenges, and improving how collection is delivered as more communities come into the program. This is a chance to contribute to a program that touches households across Saskatchewan and will continue to matter long after the workday ends.

Key Responsibilities

As the Collection Specialist, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

1. Collection Oversight and Field Operations

Act as the primary point of contact for collection service providers within assigned regions of Saskatchewan.
Support the onboarding of new service providers and manage service changes, transitions, and terminations as required.
Conduct site visits, in-field training, and regular check-ins to ensure collection operations align with program requirements.
Monitor collection performance, field reports, contamination results, and other data to identify issues related to compliance, quality, and efficiency.
Work directly with service providers to address gaps, resolve operational challenges, and improve collection outcomes.

2. Relationship and Contract Management

Build and maintain working relationships with collectors, contractors, municipalities, and community partners.
Support contract administration by ensuring expectations are understood and met.
Address escalated issues using established protocols and work collaboratively to reach practical resolutions.
Act as the first point of contact for collection-related inquiries.

3. Program Support and Continuous Improvement

Contribute to the development and refinement of tools, standards, procedures, and best practices related to collection operations.
Support the implementation of collection projects and service changes aligned with annual operating plans and program priorities.
Collaborate with internal teams, including post-collection, communications, and operations support, to ensure alignment and information sharing.
Assist with reporting, data accuracy, and documentation to support program monitoring and decision-making.
Represent the organization at meetings, site visits, and occasional public or industry events.
Support service transitions, process development, and program-led operational changes as the provincial recycling system continues to expand.

Qualifications

As Collection Specialist, you will possess the following qualities:

The Essentials (Hard Skills):

Post-secondary education in environmental studies, sustainability, operations, supply chain, or a related discipline.
Experience working in an operational, logistics, municipal, or service-delivery environment.
Strong ability to interpret data, review reports, and identify operational trends or issues.
Experience working with external partners, contractors, or service providers.
Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly throughout the province.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
