Join the Leadership Team of a Growing Modular Construction Manufacturer

SKY Modular is an Ontario-based modular construction manufacturer specializing in factory-built homes, apartment buildings, hotels and workforce housing.

We are looking for an experienced accounting professional to become one of the company's first management team members. This is a unique opportunity to build the finance, accounting and procurement functions from the ground up while working directly with the company's founder and senior leadership.

This position is intended for someone seeking a long-term career opportunity with increasing responsibility as the company grows.

Responsibilities

Manage procurement processes by sourcing suppliers, negotiating pricing, and securing favorable terms to support manufacturing needs.
Oversee vendor management activities, maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and ensuring compliance with company policies.
Utilize ERP systems such as SAP to process purchase orders, track inventory levels through MRP (Material Requirements Planning), and monitor supply chain performance.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align procurement strategies with production schedules and demand forecasts.
Conduct market research to identify new sourcing opportunities and stay informed on industry trends affecting pricing and supply chain stability.
Ensure timely and accurate processing of purchasing requests while maintaining comprehensive procurement records.
Collaborate with finance teams to manage budgets, analyze costs, and optimize procurement expenses across departments.

Primary Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

Full-cycle bookkeeping
Accounts payable and receivable
Payroll administration
HST filings
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Monthly and year-end financial reporting
Preparing financial reports for management
Cash flow forecasting and monitoring
Budget preparation and variance analysis
Job costing for modular construction projects
Maintaining accurate financial records
Working with external accountants and auditors

Estimating & Cost Control

Preparing and updating construction estimates
Material cost analysis
Labour cost tracking
Maintaining estimating databases
Monitoring project budgets and profitability
Assisting with tender pricing and cost analysis

Procurement & Supply Chain

Preparing purchase orders
Sourcing suppliers and obtaining quotations
Negotiating pricing and delivery schedules
Building long-term supplier relationships
Coordinating deliveries with production schedules
Maintaining purchasing records
Supporting inventory management and cost control

Business Operations

Assisting management with strategic planning
Developing accounting and procurement procedures
Supporting financing applications and lender reporting
Helping establish internal financial controls
Participating in management meetings and business planning

Minimum Qualifications Required

3–5 years of progressive accounting and bookkeeping experience
Experience in the construction, modular construction, manufacturing or building materials industry is strongly preferred
Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial reporting
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and HST filings
Experience preparing month-end reports and bank reconciliations
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as QuickBooks Online or similar
Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment
Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a vehicle for weekly meetings in Barrie and Ramara

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with construction job costing, project accounting or manufacturing accounting
Experience preparing project budgets, estimates and cash flow forecasts
Procurement or purchasing experience, including supplier negotiations and purchase order management
Knowledge of inventory management and cost control
Experience supporting construction financing or lender reporting
Working toward or interested in pursuing a CPA designation is considered an asset but is not required
Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to grow into a senior leadership position

Compensation & Incentives

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the company rather than simply fill a position.

Our compensation package includes:

Starting salary from $50,000 per year (based on experience)
Annual performance and salary reviews
Hybrid work arrangement with flexible scheduling
Significant responsibility and direct access to senior management
Eligibility to participate in the company's Stock Option Plan after 12–18 months of successful employment (subject to plan terms and board approval)
Clear advancement opportunities into Finance Manager, Controller and ultimately Chief Financial Officer as the company expands

Work Arrangement

Primarily remote
Weekly in-person meetings in Barrie and Ramara, Ontario
Occasional visits to suppliers, manufacturing facilities and project sites as required

The successful candidate is looking for more than a bookkeeping position. They are excited by the opportunity to help build the finance, accounting and procurement functions of a growing manufacturing company. They are comfortable taking ownership of new responsibilities, improving systems and processes, and working closely with senior management.

As SKY Modular expands, this role is expected to progress through increasing levels of responsibility, providing a clear pathway to Finance Manager, Controller, Director of Finance, and ultimately Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the right individual.
