Full job description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Field Superintendent and/or designate, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating equipment and performing functions in Road maintenance and repair services to the Gordie Howe International Bridge, lands, bridge, culverts, drainage, landscape and other infrastructure pursuant to the AFOM Scope of work.

Functional Responsibilities:

· Winter maintenance of roads includes winter plowing/salting, and snow/ice removal, as required.

· Operation of a variety of heavy equipment such as single/tandem axel plow trucks, dump trucks (with and without attachments), front-end loader, skid steer, zero turn lawn mower and other job-related equipment to maintain bridge infrastructure.

· Carries out work assignments using a variety of hand and power tools such as chain saws, shovels, rakes, grass trimmers, and traffic control devices.

· Conduct patrolling and inspection of roads, bridge and site infrastructure. Record document findings in report.

· Hard and loose top road surface patching, maintenance, and repairs as required. Debris removal, sign replacement, installation of barricades and grass cutting, traffic control including flagging and directing traffic.

· Maintenance and repair of drains; culvert and catch basin inspections, cleaning, repairs, replacement, implementing erosion control measures, and removing blockages and debris to ensure the level and flow of surface and storm water.

· Performs routine cleaning, greasing and minor mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance of roads, bridge, parking lots, fencing, gates, bridge bearings and vehicles and equipment; inspect vehicles and equipment to ensure that they are in a mechanically satisfactory condition to be operated safely.

· Maintains accurate and proper records and documentation of workorders, inspections, vehicle and equipment inspection reports, maintenance logs, road patrols and other road maintenance activities in accordance with the established practices and policies in a computer-based environment.

· Ensure compliance of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation by following ACS-Fluor Health and Safety program, procedures and best practices.

· Perform other related tasks and functions as assigned as required.

Qualifications, Education and Training

· Must have a valid Class AZ/DZ driver’s license in good standing.

· Experience in road maintenance and equipment operation considered an asset.

· Standard First Aid and CPR certification in good standing considered an asset.

· Traffic Control training considered an asset.

· Mechanical aptitude and experience considered an asset.

Skills and Competencies

· Ability to operate varying pieces of equipment for Operational services.

· Attention to detail and mental and visual concentration and alertness to ensure the safety of others.

· Ability to work independently in a safe, effective and efficient manner.

· Must be able to read, write and respond to both verbal and written English communications; keep accurate records.

· Interpersonal and public relations skills to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff and the general public.

· Must be able to work at heights.

Effort, Physical Demands and Working Conditions

· Performance of duties normally takes place in both indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor environments are subject to severe inclement weather.

· Required to wear/use various PPE including but not limited to: Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved PPE.

· Position involves physical efforts of lifting up to 50 lbs.

· Position involves attentive listening and both mental and visual concentration.

· Position requires confidentiality in some aspects of the work.

Hours of Work

· 40 hours per week, shift work required.

· Position is required to occasionally work overtime/callouts and in order to handle emergencies for maintenance and winter control including nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Pay: $28.53-$30.53 per hour
