Working Kitchen Manager
The Fountainhead Pub · Davie Village, Vancouver
Job posting · Ready to publish on Indeed and the venue website · May 2026
The Fountainhead Pub has anchored Vancouver's Davie Village at 1025 Davie Street for 26 years. We're an inclusive LGBTQ+ neighbourhood pub with a real food program (29% of total revenue), a 16-tap craft beer selection, one of the largest patios on Davie, and a long-tenured FOH team that customers regularly recognize by name in their reviews. We're looking for a Working Kitchen Manager who can match what FOH is doing — and lead the next chapter of our menu.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position: **30–35 hours/week on the cook line + 10–15 hours/week leading menu development, training, ordering, and BOH operations.** You report to the General Manager and the owner. You'll manage a team of 4–6 line cooks. You'll have real authority to refresh and develop the menu — this is not a maintenance role.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead daily kitchen operations — prep, line execution, food quality consistency across all dayparts (lunch, dinner, late-night, weekend brunch).
- Menu engineering and development — quarterly review of item performance, new item design, seasonal features. We have specific plans to roll out a new $16 Cheeseburger SKU and a late-night snack menu in your first 90 days.
- Inventory, ordering, par levels, waste reduction, COGS management against budget.
- Train and develop BOH staff; manage kitchen scheduling.
- Health and safety compliance — FoodSafe, allergen protocols, kitchen cleanliness standards.
- Collaborate with FOH on the food attach program, Flight Night Thursday programming, and combo execution.
- Tighten quality consistency — the kitchen has plenty of strength; we're looking for someone who will make it bulletproof.
You're a Fit If You Have
- 5+ years cooking experience, with at least 2 years in a sous chef or kitchen lead role.
- Demonstrated menu development experience — you can show us items you've conceived or led onto a menu.
- Comfort working a busy line during dinner peak (6–9 PM is our revenue engine).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a small team.
- FoodSafe Level 1 (Level 2 preferred); current BC liquor regulations awareness.
- Bonus: pub or casual-dining background; experience in LGBTQ+ inclusive workplaces.
What We Offer
Base salary: $55,000 to $65,000/ year
Plus:
- Tip pool participation
- Performance bonus
- Extended medical and dental benefits (after 3-month probation)
Plus the intangibles that actually matter:
- A 26-year inclusive Davie Village institution with real customer love.
- Genuine authority to refresh the menu — quarterly menu reviews with the owner and GM, real input into seasonal features, real budget for new SKU development.
- A clear strategic plan in place for the next 12 months — fries quality refresh, $16 Cheeseburger launch, late-night snack menu, brunch program rebuild, Thursday Flight Night programming. You won't be inventing the strategy; you'll be executing it and bringing your own creative input where it matters.
- A team that's already strong — FOH service quality is uniformly recognized in public reviews.
Brand Commitment
The Fountainhead is a welcoming, inclusive workplace. We're proudly LGBTQ+ anchored, and the team reflects that culture in the kitchen as well as on the floor. Allies, queer folks, people of all backgrounds — you're all welcome to apply.
