Full job description

The Home School Teacher will design and deliver a personalized, hands‑on learning program for children studying at home. This role includes developing curriculum, leading engaging learning activities, assessing student progress, and ensuring all instruction meets BC Learning Standards for each grade level. Learning will take place both at home and in the community, with regular local and international travel based on the family’s schedule. The teacher will also provide remote instruction when needed to maintain learning continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Planning

Develop long-term and weekly plans that align with BC Learning Standards (Core Competencies, Curricular Competencies, Content).
Prepare lesson plans, learning materials, and supporting resources.
Embed ongoing assessment practices, including diagnostic, formative, and summative evaluations.

Operations & Compliance

Maintain accurate records for attendance, planning, and assessment.
Manage learning resources and education-related expenses with parent/guardian approval.
Ensure student safety through effective supervision and risk management practices.
Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.

Assessment & Reporting

Document student progress toward BC learning objectives and standards.
Maintain Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and student portfolios.
Provide regular updates to parents/guardians, including progress notes, goals, and recommended next steps.

Remote Learning

Plan and supervise frequent off-site learning experiences (museums, parks, cultural sites, community organizations).
Coordinate logistics and safety planning for travel-based learning.
Deliver remote lessons using online tools when travel or scheduling requires flexibility.

Additional Duties

Prepare healthy meals for the children on teaching days; integrate food preparation into learning when appropriate (e.g., baking, practical life skills).
Complete light clean-up tasks to leave the home in the same condition as the start of the day.
Contribute to a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Personal Attributes

Creative, student‑centered, and adaptable educator capable of designing dynamic learning experiences rooted in curiosity and exploration.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and flexibility to adapt instruction to changing environments, cultures, and learning contexts.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent degree in elementary or secondary education.
Minimum 3–5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in K–9
Demonstrated experience designing and delivering experiential, inquiry-based, or project-based learning.
Strong knowledge of the BC Curriculum, including Core Competencies, Curricular Competencies, and Content standards.
Valid Class 5 Drivers License with a clean drivers abstract

Preferred Qualifications

Fluency in a second language (considered an asset).
Musical ability, such as playing an instrument, vocal skills, or music instruction experience.
Training or background in arts integration, outdoor education, or STEAM learning (asset).

Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
