SENIOR DESIGNER / PROJECT LEAD
7–10+ Years of Experience | Luxury Residential & High-Rise Condominium
Toronto, ON | In-Studio | Full-Time
Tomas Pearce Interior Design is seeking an accomplished Senior Designer / Project Lead to join our award-winning Toronto team.
This is a senior, hands-on design position for someone who can confidently take ownership of sophisticated interior design projects from concept through construction. We are looking for a strong designer who combines exceptional design sensibility with technical expertise, project leadership, and the ability to guide a team.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in luxury residential and high-rise condominium design and understands what it takes to move a complex project forward: developing the design vision, managing deliverables, reviewing drawings and shop drawings, coordinating consultants and trades, mentoring designers, communicating with clients, and solving problems throughout construction.
The Role
As a Senior Designer / Project Lead, you will take a leadership role across multiple projects while remaining actively involved in the design process.
Working closely with our Principals and design teams, you will help establish the creative direction of projects and then lead the team through design development, documentation, coordination, construction, and completion.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the original design intent is carried successfully through every stage of the project while keeping the team, consultants, clients, and deliverables aligned.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead interior design projects from concept and schematic design through design development, construction documentation, construction administration, and project close-out.
- Develop and advance sophisticated design concepts in collaboration with the Principals and project team.
- Lead and mentor intermediate and junior designers, providing clear direction, feedback, and technical guidance.
- Establish project priorities, delegate work, and monitor team deliverables against project schedules.
- Produce, oversee, and review comprehensive AutoCAD drawing packages.
- Review drawings for design intent, coordination, constructability, accuracy, and completeness before issuance.
- Review shop drawings, samples, submittals, RFIs, SIs, and contractor documentation and coordinate responses with the project team.
- Coordinate architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, lighting, millwork, and other consultants.
- Lead coordination with contractors, fabricators, suppliers, and trades throughout construction.
- Participate in and lead client, consultant, contractor, and internal project meetings.
- Prepare for and conduct site visits, identify deficiencies, resolve site conditions, and protect the integrity of the design throughout construction.
- Research, specify, and approve architectural materials, finishes, fixtures, millwork, furnishings, and custom design elements.
- Maintain clear project documentation, meeting records, design decisions, and outstanding action items.
- Work with studio leadership to identify scope changes, additional services, and potential impacts to project schedules and deliverables.
- Anticipate project challenges and proactively develop practical, design-conscious solutions.
- Maintain a high level of quality control and consistency across all project documentation and presentations.
- Contribute to studio standards, processes, mentorship, and the continued development of our design team.
What You Bring
- 7–10+ years of professional interior design experience, preferably within a recognized interior design or architecture studio.
- Significant experience with high-rise residential development is strongly preferred.
- Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.
- A sophisticated design sensibility and demonstrated ability to develop and execute elevated interior environments.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to independently produce, review, redline, and coordinate comprehensive drawing packages.
- Strong understanding of interior construction, detailing, millwork, materials, finishes, lighting, and custom fabrication.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating shop drawings and consultant drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, including Parts 3 and 9, as applicable.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and working directly with contractors and trades.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and mentoring design teams.
- Strong understanding of project schedules, deliverables, scope, and workflow.
- Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard for design and documentation quality.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- A proactive, accountable, solutions-oriented approach.
- Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and project management software experience are considered assets.
Who Will Thrive Here
You are a designer first, but a leader by experience.
You can move comfortably between a client presentation, a design critique, a drawing review, a consultant meeting, and a construction site.
You understand that great design requires more than a strong concept. It requires thoughtful detailing, technical coordination, clear communication, disciplined documentation, and follow-through.
You know how to lead without losing sight of the details, mentor without micromanaging, and make decisions when a project needs direction.
Most importantly, you take ownership of your projects and care deeply about the quality of the finished work.
