Position: Business Development Officer
Department: Business Development
Reports to: Director of Business Development
Location: Prince George
Status: Full-time
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Position Summary

The Business Development Officer is responsible for identifying and reviewing new companies that are compatible with MLIB’s business development objectives while performing to a level of competency as listed below.

Key Responsibilities include however are not limited to:

- Support in identifying and reviewing new companies that are compatible with MLIB’s business development objectives.

- Draft of project(s) support letters for the Band partnerships.

- Track partnership activities and revenue shares and support the Finance Department on revenue shares reports. Also, analyze financial data, track partnership performance, and adjust strategies to meet the Band revenue targets.

- Maintain day-to-day and strong communication with the Band partners and ensure seamless execution of project needs from the Band partners.

- On the approval of the Director, attend industry events, workshops, seminars, conferences, trade shows, and stay informed on project activities.

- Assist in contract and partnership agreements negotiations.

- Assist in preparing business plans, briefing notes, Band Council Resolution, business correspondence, and PowerPoint presentations as required.

- Support with the review and evaluation of partnership agreement documents and ensure that the agreements are in line with the business strategic direction of the Band and are strictly adhered to by the parties.

- Maintain an efficient record/spreadsheet of all Band agreements documents, list of partners, and royalties (revenue shares).

- Support the promotion of Band members’ owned businesses on projects within the traditional territory and assist members wishing to have a business with a plan.

- Prepare and submit monthly business reports to the Band Chief & Council through the Business Development Director.

- On the directive of the Director, and on behalf of MLIB, negotiate business royalties/rates with industry partners and companies.

- Prepare proposals and research for and apply for grants to support the Band's economic and business development initiatives.

- Support the collaboration with the Land Stewardship Department and local economic development organizations to identify new industrial opportunities for MLIB and its entities.

- Provide business counselling and coaching to Band members who are interested in business.

- Respond to the business/partnership enquiries from industries/companies seeking a partnership with the Band. Also, review the company's profile and make recommendations.

- Assess business opportunities and develop strategies to attract equity partners to the Band.

- Schedule meetings between the department and industry partners and/or stakeholders.

- Execute any other administrative duties as may be required.

Job Requirements:

5–10 years of business and economic development or project experience within First Nations.
Proven ability to develop new business and secure large industrial projects.
Excellent knowledge of First Nations business space.
Strong knowledge of the Canadian industrial markets and key client groups.
Strong understanding of proposals, pricing, contracts, and profit margins.
Strong knowledge of negotiations, conflict resolution and understanding of loyalties/revenue shares.
Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently while partnering with companies and engaging with industry stakeholders.
Comfortable managing a large territory with some travel across Western Canada.
Professional, driven, and highly customer focused.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Development Economics, Marketing, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
Proven experience in business and economic development, preferably with other Indigenous stakeholders and large industry sectors.
Strong understanding of business principles and project execution.
Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Class 5 Driver’s License.

Compensation:

· Competitive Salary: $80,000 to $90,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
