BAR MANAGER – THE NARROW LOUNGE

1898 Main St, Vancouver, BC | Full-time | Wed–Sun (availability required)

Compensation Package:
$20.50-$22.50 per hour
Gratuities: approx. $675-$900/week
(~$75k-$90k/year)

You've seen the single red light. Maybe you've danced on the bar. You know what The Narrow is and you want to be the one running it.

We're looking for a Bar Manager who can hold down the room, lead by example, and keep the good times moving. This is a hands-on bartending role with the title, the creative freedom, and the pay to match without the parts of bar management that burn people out.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You'll be behind the bar four days a week. Our management teams work 4x 10(ish) hour days because we believe that provides the best work/life balance and flexibility. You're often running the floor solo with one cook in the back, so you own the energy of the room. This is not a desk job. The admin load is minimal: no scheduling, no liquor/wine/beer ordering, no inventory counts.

What you will be responsible for:

- Running the bar and commanding the room on your shifts

- Building regulars and giving great service

- Reporting when things are broken so that they can be fixed

- Designing and refreshing the cocktail menu twice a year (April and September) — approachable, creative, and not prep-heavy

- Owning and improving bar operations: opening, closing, patio, cleaning, and prep routines

- Coaching staff in the moment when the standard needs to be held

- Placing GFS (garnish, non-alc, paper supplies) and BBS (cleaning/chemical) orders

- Working with operations leadership to make sure systems are documented and followed

- Writing a brief logout after every shift that goes to operations & ownership about how the night went

What you will NOT be doing:

- Scheduling

- Liquor, wine, or beer ordering

- Inventory counts

- Heavy admin of any kind

WHO YOU ARE

- An experienced bartender who can command a room: people follow your lead because you're good, maybe because you're loud

- Technically strong enough to present a balanced, executable cocktail menu

- Someone who genuinely enjoys the chaos of a fun bar and knows how to ride it, not fight it

- Comfortable giving direct feedback to coworkers and holding the standard even on a busy night

- Available Wednesday through Sunday; typical schedule is Wed–Sat

- Committed to a workplace where everyone (staff and guests) feels safe and welcome

The Narrow is an East Vancouver institution at 1898 Main St. It's dark, intimate, and a little unpredictable: the kind of place where a quiet Tuesday can turn into a great night. Our bar staff is the heartbeat of the room, and we take that seriously.

Hours: Mon–Thu 5PM–1AM | Fri–Sat 5PM–2AM | Sun 5PM–1AM
