Full job description

Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! Working in Recreation means being apart of something special, gaining valuable work experience and learning new skills. We are looking for dedicated individuals who enjoy working with others with a passion to deliver high quality programs, events and services. One thing is for certain, you will love the experience and our participants will too!

The Successful Candidate Will:

1. Develop and deliver a fun, safe and inclusive fitness class.

2. Ensure attendance is taken at each class so the class does not go over program capacity.

3. Communicate with participants to troubleshoot and discuss any issues or concerns with the program.

4. Liaise with the programmer to discuss any concerns, issues or developments with the program, facility or participants.

5. Manage their class time and preparation time, as well as arriving on time for their program.

6. Ensure a proper setup of their room prior to the beginning of each class.

7. Ensure a proper takedown of their room/equipment put away at the end of each class.

8. Fill out the required paperwork that deals with Health and Safety issues, accidents, incidents or facility issues.

Job Requirements

All
1. Excellent customer service, communication, leadership, and organizational skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
2. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
3. Availability/flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
4. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

Specialized 1 – Starting $30
1. Responsible for program delivery of the fitness class such as: Step, Boot Camp, Pilates, Barre, Weight Training, High Intensity Interval Training, Yoga, Zumba, Aqua Fitness (low, medium, high intensity classes) etc.
2. Demonstrated work experience of at least one to two years in the area hired to instruct.
3. Current certification or workshop from the stated teaching field.

Specialized 2 – Starting $35
1. Demonstrated work experience of at least three years in the area hired to instruct.
2. 2 or more current certification or workshop from the stated teaching field.
3. Demonstrated commitment to continued education in the fitness field (example: workshops, seminars, etc).

Specialized 3 – Starting at $40
1. Responsible for program delivery of specialized fitness class such as: T.I.M.E., Kettlebell, etc.
2. Demonstrated work experience of at least five years in the area hired to instruct.
3. Current certification or workshop from the stated teaching field.
4. Demonstrated commitment to continued education in the fitness field (example: workshops, seminars, etc).

Please Note:
1. Rate of pay will be determined by Town of Newmarket staff based on applicant experience and/or program requirements.

2. Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.

Disclaimer: Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
